Aluminum tray. Was displayed on the top of my grandparent's frig as long as I can remember and I am 55. Don't know who gave it to them, but it had a place of honor in their home. "The 49th Armored Division --nicknamed the Lone Star-- was one of two armored divisions of the United States Army National Guard, redesignated from the 36th Infantry Division (the "T-Patchers" after World War II, and organized and federally recognized on 24 February 1947."

Obviously something FA (Artillery) related. The little guidon on the right looks like it is 649 on top and 5 on the bottom. Is that correct?

Memory tells me that all the FA units in the 49AD were either 131/132/133 regimental lineage which they kept from the triangular 36ID WWII times. This platter could predate the ROAD organization ('64) into unit configurations/names currently used. Regiments/triangular divisions went away in the late '50s and morphed into the temporary Battle Group fiasco for a about 5 years. This might be from this time period, just speculating.

The '649' throws me some. Even the old Target Acquisition Battery was a 133 lineage. Anyone else have some ideas?

In 1947, the 49th Division had an Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion called the 649th. The only action I can find them participating in was some tornado relief in Waco.

The oddball regimental affiliations eventually morphed into the 132nd, etc.

I thought it looked more like 645 but yeah, it didn't make any sense to me either. A little Googling turned up this from the Texas Military Forces Museum's Web Site.

Looks like this plate must have been from the time period between 1947 and 1952 before the renumbering.
