and I come upon some WWF wrestling. What catches my attention is a bunch of pogues in uniform screaming, fist pumping and jumping up and down to so-and-so spewing nonsense, center-ring. It kind of turns my stomach when I see this kind of stuff at the special concerts and events at military installations, more specifically OCONUS, but this was at some random venue. Does no one with any sense appreciate how many stereotypes this perpetuates, and have any appreciation for professionalism?

2 questions; Is wearing your uniform in a setting like this authorized; and am I over reacting (does it not bother anyone else)?

Don't necessarily disagree but I believe that we have been stereotyped so much by the press that one more thing isn't going to change the standard mindset. WWE did a special at Bragg for the troops (believe they do it every year) and the XVIII ABN Corps DCG was even there (It has been on AFN over here repeatedly). From my experiencs with the younger Soldiers, they love WWE and MMA. I guess if they are happy that's the most important thing, God knows they deserve to be. I wouldnt' worry about it too much, we ask so much of them already. Merry Christmas and God Bless!

WWE did a full show at Hood about 18 months ago, and there were about 15,000 Soldiers/family members in attendance (free). The III Corps CG was in attendance. The actors/athletes stayed for hours to give autographs. Good event for those who like it.

The Army raises young men to be violent, fight each other, be fueled by adrenaline and testosterone. WWE, MMA, football, whatever else are in their souls, and actually can be useful to keep the troops hard.

So, yeah, I'd argue that you're over-reacting.

And units often get free tickets from various sporting events, and Soldiers who get them are usually told to go in uniform at the request of the sports event for good PR.

I'm with chosin. I'm all for the violent side of the argument, I think the exposure for troops is right in its place. I disagree with, however, those individuals acting like clowns on televised events. It's just one of the those professionalism things I guess, being on your best behavior while in uniform (you should be on your best behavior anyways) and while representing an organization that is supposed to exhibit values that are superior to the social norm. On another note, I think the Army's regs on the wearing of uniforms off base needs to be altered, I'm a little more partial to how to Marine Corps does its off post and liberty uniform regs.

Of course he was. MG Anderson was the post commander when we deployed. Don't get confused...FORSCOM doesn't run *****at Bragg...they're just a tenant.

The WWE did a live broadcast from Iraq in 2008 in front of Al Faw palace. I watched it for about 10 minutes and felt my IQ drop by 10 points...

Different day and time, but I remember stripper nights at the O'Club. They were held in the Stag Bar where women (other than the "performers" were not allowed. That concept has to be so foreign to today's PC military. I am defending it and probably only went once or twice but it did happen.

I'll confirm that. And like you said, different day and time.
