Warm salute, pat on the back, and heartfelt 'thanks' to any of you current service men/women pulling duty of any sort on Christmas Day. I got to do it once way back in 1977 as Bn Duty Officer for a Tank Battalion in the 24ID. All I remember was that it was a quiet, sunny Georgia day during peacetime but far, far from home and family. The first one I ever missed with my folks. Service to country is just that.

Where ever duty calls. God Bless America......

Had to do it in Germany. I was actually grateful to be in uniform. Saved me from having to think about Christmas and being away from my family for the first time.

Spent Christmas '65 at Oakland army terminal. Continued to Vietnam the 26th. Made it home for Christmas '66. Those of you on active duty - thank you for your service.

Never had the duty on Christmas. Us married guys would always trade out Christmas for New Years Eve with the single guys in the units so we could spend Christmas with our families and they could party hard on New years Eve.

Just finished chatting with my daughter who is in Kuwait, as is her husband. For her, Christmas has already arrived!

God be with all of our active duty military personnel who are away from their loved ones on this blessed day!

Reminds me of a Jewish guy from NY I served with at Fort Knox. He had no problem pulling Staff Duty on Christmas Day but... "What are you going to give me for it?".

Civilian contractor...on duty today. Embedded with an Engineer unit here in Oman. It's a BEAUTIFUL, cool, quiet day (mostly) in what seems like the only place in the Middle East where no one is shooting at anyone. We have a good meal ahead, and a comedy troupe on the base this evening.

I miss the kids and normalcy...but overall, it's really hard to complain. I'm thankful to be working with such great men & women this Christmas day. Merry Christmas to all of you over here in the AOR, and to all of you back in "the World"!

First Christmas not in Iraq/Afghanistan/NTC since 2004. And I have to say thanks to President Obama for his "all troops will be home" speech, because otherwise I'd still be sitting in Kuwait as the OPRES.

Thanks to 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, who are sucking it up on an extended deployment in Kuwait right now.

Just got home from having Christmas day SDO. Fortunately my parents came out to Georgia, and my twins are too small to really get Christmas, but they did enjoy turkey and dressing at the DEFAC.
Merry Christmas to all of those still stuck on duty and overseas.

I was about to post that, but read the thread first and saw that DevilD beat me to it.

Thumbs up to all who are away from their families during the Holidays. Grateful thanks for your service and sacrifice - and also the sacrifice of your loved ones who are missing you even more this time of year.
