quote:
November 13, 1954 will go down in Aggie history as the date of a “famous” water fight that actually involved the use of a fire truck. Not once, but twice!...

In previous water fights, two Aggie seniors in Dorm 9, across from the mess hall, would pour water down from their room on the fourth floor, but no one could throw water high enough to retaliate. With the fire truck, the Aggie Band “wet heads” had a chance for revenge!

Accordingly at 2 a.m., “pots & ponchos” were donned, the strains of “Texas Fight” filled the air, a water fight began, and the two seniors began pouring water down from the safety of their room on the fourth floor of Dorm 9.

Suddenly, out from behind Duncan Mess Hall came the fire truck with its siren blaring and lights flashing. It proceeded to a position in front of Dorm 9, where with great accuracy, a stream of water flooded the room of two astonished seniors.

Then the truck moved on down the Quadrangle, with any open dorm window becoming a fair target. As time was beginning to run short, the truck left the Quadrangle area, passing the Kampus Kops who were speeding on their way to the water fight still in progress. The truck then cut across the Aggie golf course to Highway 6 and made good its escape on Highway 21 back to Lincoln....

Psychological Warfare perhaps? Or at least a good way to instigate something.

"Back in the day" we BQs always fell out a little early for Midnight Yell in front of the BQ dorm. Sergebutts and a few zips would do the "sergebutt band" standing around and playing a few tunes while we waited to march over to yell. We'd play several Aggie Band songs, the SMU fight song, etc. A favorite was the Rice Alma Mater (Honor, I think is the title) because it was the tune for the BQ song. We'd also play "Texas Fight" so we could sing along

Texas Bite!
Texas Bite!
Texas Jump up and bite my @$$!

While I was at A&M, there was a class reunion of a class I can't immediately recall, though it seems like it was early 60s. Some of the old BQs came by and were stunned to learn we were still singing the BQ song, which they claimed to have written.

At the time, we sang:

"Found in every bar room
Every wh**e house too-o-o-o
We're the Aggie Band Q****s from
A....M.....U"

They corrected us, saying as originally written, it was

"Every wh**e house free-e-e-e
We're the Aggie Band Q****s from
A....M.....C"

Their explanation was that BQs were so awesome, that we were welcomed without paying, and besides it was more Old Army, rhyming with AMC instead of AMU.

Remember Rice was a power in the old SWC, and we were still playing them in the 70s. One of my favorite memories of those games is watching the crowd reaction as Rice played their school song and all the BQs were quietly singing "along".

I don't know where it came from, but Fat Man hated it when we sang it in the Rice Stadium.

I thought he was going to burst a vein.
