Good bull that these events happened today, and even better the cadets looked good in Class A Winters.

Good stuff, and I agree I like seeing the Winter A's back. Now we just have to convince the army to bring that uniform back.

What's the significance of the RV's holding their rifles straight up like that?

The XO of the RV's made the change a few years back. I believe they used to be held closer to a 45 degree angle, now they are straight up.

Does anyone else think the cords are getting a little ridiculous? These days, it seems like nearly everyone has a cord.

Why hold it straight up? Seems goofy to me when normally it's held at 45.

Yea I know they added a couple cords before I left, too many I think. There's the one for the outfit with most commissioned officers and another one for outstanding engineering outfit or something like that.

Yeah, I have no clue why they started sticking the rifle straight up. Maybe since the normal firing squads are only 7 folks, and here we've got 21, so to avoid the rifle going off closer to someone's ear they point it up? Although in the pictures here there are only 7, maybe they just don't know why they do it that way anymore so they didn't think to adapt to a new situation (if that was the original reason why they switched).

No, the reason they hold it straight up is purely because the XO wanted the rifle squad to be a little unique from other military rifle teams. The reason there are only 7 in this pic is because often at funerals, memorials, and other daytime events, it is hard to have all 21 members present. It's easier to just use 7 guys, and fire 3 rounds each (which is why there are magazines in the rifles).

well truthfully, that's retarded to just do it to be unique. They're already unique enough, follow standard military regs. I think it just further paints the stereotype that Aggies are dumb.

Well you know how it is... whenever someone gets put in a position of power, they want to make a change, so that they can look back in a few years and feel like they had an impact on something.

I bet a lot of the RVs don't even know that's not how it's always been.

The current XO should just take it back to 45 degrees and say it is old army. It does look odd pointed straight up.
