Email from 12th Man Foundation:

The Kansas game will serve as the military appreciation game for the 2011 season. The Texas A&M Corps of Cadets' contribution to the United States' military will be recognized this year. In conjunction with this recognition, the Corps of Cadets will, for the first time since 1956, form an all-Corps Block T on Kyle Field at a football game. At more than 2,000 members strong this year, it will stretch from endzone to endzone.

First time on Kyle since 1956, but we did this in about 1975 on Simpson Drill Field. No one could see it, but somebody climbed up on the MSC to take a photo and we got to see that later.

I was in the last Block T in 1956 during the Rice game. As I recall we practiced only once before the game. To form the T took up almost all the half-time. The Band didn't preform as there wasn't time.
I have a picture of the Block T on my wall.

Just getting the Corps seated in Rudder takes 20 minutes. Can't imagine how long this is going to take.

The do an all Corps block T in Kyle every 4 years for a picture opportunity. I missed it my fish year because I was at FDT practice.

It has been practiced once on the band drill field (about two weeks ago). The 2nd and last practice will be this Sunday at Kyle Field at 1500 hours. The band outlines the "T" and the rest of the Corps will fill it in. Each major unit has a designated area within the "T". The BDEs are at the top of the "T", the Wings fill in the middle area, and the RGTs fill in the bottom of the "T". They will also do the Corps hump it before they break. Should be pretty cool...Hooah!

Sounds good. Make sure they practice the hump it at least a few times. We never could get it done all together back when I was there.

I wasn't in the Corps, so I don't like criticizing, but they REALLY needed practice. At the top of the T, when they humped it, they were actually spooning.

I was actually commenting to my wife just before it started that there was no organization on the sidelines, and that I hoped they knew where to go.

I hope they do this better next year, or pack it away for another 60 years.

Current cadet here,

This thing was a logistical nightmare to accomplish, especially because we had no plan to go off of since 1956. That being said, for our first time out of the box, I think it was executed fairly well. We will AAR and see how we can fix this but you can be sure it will be back next year.

Yes, we were covered properly. However our alignment was due to the fact that we had to find places for extra people that were no at our practice sessions. I also agree with the doctor

Take at look at the opening scenes from "We've Never Been Licked." As I remember it, units are marching into pre-assigned places. (They did it regularly, too, at each game, so I imagine they had a good sense of how to do it.)

For whatever it's worth, in the Spring of 1992, we did a Corps Block T on Kyle Field. It was massive and definitely a logistical nightmare. I don't really remember too much about why we did it. I think there was a picture of it in The Aggieland and I would imagine there's one in the Corps Center too.

not during a football game, though..

actually, there was massive organization on where they were seated to make it easy for them to get to all four corners, this was not just left up to chance. also, they were to run to different quadrants of the T, not just hope it worked out.

There were a lot of meetings and planning for this. make no mistake..

I do think they were supposed to line up N-S and then line up to the W, so that should've helped the lines, but didn't seem like they did that.
