Separating from the AF this coming spring/summer. I'm really looking into going into the guard or reserve, but I would really like to cross train into something different. Right now I'm in space, but am just not really interested in continuing on in this career field.

I'm going to be moving to the Dallas area, so I'll be looking for units near there.

Anyone know anything about how difficult it is to cross train if you're transitioning from AD to guard or reserve?

I would speak with a Guard/Reserve recruiter regarding this. It shouldn't be too difficult to make this happen. The good thing is there is a wide selection of Guard and Reserve units in the DFW area.

What is your current rank and what are you interested in?

I'm a captain and I'm looking for something where I'd actually get to lead people. Space is all I've ever known and am just really not interested in staying in this career field. So far my flight commanding responsibility has been leading a flight of no more than a dozen people.

Also looking for something that has a relatively short time for training. As much as I'd love to join the reserves to fly helicopters or something, I know that those opportunities are probably not very common and even if they do exist I can't exactly spend two years in flight school.

I am leaving active duty AF in 11 days and just went through this process. I am on the enlisted side, but there is an in service recruiter for the guard/reserve on base. The process is fairly simple.
