I had heard about this last week when I had lunch with the president of the uniform board.

Can't wait for sleeves down in Yuma when it's over 110 degrees for three months straight

Yep, just need to make our cammies blue/grey, add some velcro and a bunch of pockets and we'll be all set.

While we're at it, changing from tan to green and back is silly as well. The sleeve thing is just one more reason to be glad I don't usually have to wear cammies more than once a month.

Especially since we wear deserts when everything is green and woodlands when everything is brown.

I guess it would be pointless to mention that until 2001 we actually did wear the same utility uniform as the Army (sans patches). Of course, I can relate to your dissatisfaction with a change to the way the utilities are worn. I thought that the Corps was giving up an important tradition when we started wearing name tapes and gave up the pocket stencil after Desert Storm though I was glad when the "Elvis" collar utilities were out of the supply system.

Why the hell did they ban rolled sleeves? Is there some dickweed staffer in the Pentagon who just makes random uniform changes in order to seem like he's doing something?

Yes.

I feel sorry for those poor *******s stuck on an old gator freighter with crap a/c. Somedays just having your sleeves rolled up was the only relief you get from the heat and humidity.

I suppose that if the WWW and TexAgs had existed in 1991 when we started wearing name tapes like the Army I might have whined about it on a thread. Once.

Coincided with the advent of the CNN war (AKA Desert Shield/Desert Storm). Armchair generals needed to know who it was telling them what.

Any clue on the rationale of the new reg? The Maradmin reads more like "because I said so" than a logical ruling... I suppose I don't understand why the old "unroll them if you need to" doesn't work just fine.

And 621 Maradmins? Geez.

These kinds of situations bring to mind the Bobs' interview from Office Space: "So what would you say you do here?"

the only explanation i've heard is that some study showed that arm skin temperature was recorded as lower with sleeves down. i have no idea on the authenticity of that story, but that's what i heard. makes no damn sense to me, bc when you go to the field you roll your sleeves down anyways, and when Marines get hot they just go boots and utes. sounds like what you said, just doing it for the sake of doing it, and someone trying ot leave their mark on the Corps
