when the water is at a decent level, is it possible to float the Guadalupe from below the dam to the Gruene bridge.. or better yet, all the way to the bridge at 46/337?

related question: i read that there is a container law that goes into effect at the Gruene bridge, but i don't know the details. does that mean no open containers if you're tubing beyond that point?

I've done every part of that in pieces in a kayak but never all at once.

Can you do it? Yes. Would it ever be a good idea. I don't think so. In theory you could get dropped off at the access trail below the dam (closed on weekends during summer season). Problem one..that water is ice cold…miserable to float until you get to the horseshoe at 306…then you would fight constant rapids vs walking shallows all down horseshoe and then the river road stretch. I really don't think plausible to float that stretch even with a full day…kayak with lots of paddling maybe but no way I would consider it in a tube. Then you would have good floating from Gruene to Faust st bridge/I35. That's why Rockin R has their spot there and does float to Cypress bend Park pick up.

The container thing is concerning type of container not open issue. You cannot have cans or glass or disposable containers.

We used to kayak from Lazy L to the River Riverchase subdivision. Drinking beer and fishing while we did it. I think it usually took 3-4 hours, but there was usually a stop or two where we sat and had a beer on sandy spot.

It would be a really long day to kayak the whole thing like you're talking about. And you'd better be paddling a lot to get it done in a day.

based on what i've been able to find online, it seems that the Can Ban is mainly for the Comal River, which is entirely within the New Braunfels city limits, but may also apply to the Guadalupe once you pass within the city limits.

on the Visit New Braunfels website, the first question on their FAQ is "Is Alcohol Banned?" and the answer is:

Quote:

No, All we require is that you are of legal drinking age, that you drink alcohol responsibly, and that you drink all beverages from a NON-DISPOSABLE container if you're INSIDE THE CITY LIMITS.
