There is a big shortage of neurologist in SA. I see one but can't recommend him in good conscience.

The big problem with the one I see is he sold his practice to one of the big insurance companies. So he has absolutely no say so over his staff.

And they are terrible.

I see 3 Drs including the orthopedic surgeon who replaced my shoulder. Not one of them owns their practice now. The orthopedic guy still has a good staff. The other 2 do not. Makes a big difference.

There is a Dr. Restivo (sp?) who is a neurologist who I hear good things about.

The general neurologist who diagnosed me with MS was Dr. Peyton Delaney. He said he was closing shop and going to work in Canyon Lake but someone told me he's back in SA with his own practice. I just googled his name and that checks out.

He's not brilliant - he had me on a bunch of anti-seizure meds for what some friends in medical field didn't think were seizures - and they weren't. BUT at the onset of my initial symptoms, I was referred to a neurologist at UT Health who couldn't see me for 3 weeks. I waited while the numbness continued spreading up my body only to receive a phone call from their office the day before saying the doctor couldn't be there the next day. They couldn't give a care in the world about me and wanted to reschedule me for another 3 weeks.

So I hung up with them and found Dr. Delaney online. He got me in within a couple of days. My symptoms escalated to some crazy stuff and if I'd have still been waiting to be seen for the first time I think I would have had a nervous breakdown.

Dr. Delaney got me in, clumsily but correctly diagnosed me and then handed me off to a very good specialist. That is apparently practically the gold standard in SA because we are so lacking.

Sorry. That was long. I got all riled up again.

I am willing to accept all knowledge of who not to choose. Thank you for the responses.

FWIW. Dr. Nancy Burt was my neurologist that I am not liking.

Oh no. Run away from her. Several years ago, I was referred to South Texas Ear Institute for some vestibular testing and at that time Dr Burt was with them and that's who I saw. Later I was in a follow up with my referring doc and she sald "Why did they put you with Dr. Burt? You have a neurologist." I said I didn't know and my doctor replied "Well between you and me, she's been around. She doesn't stay at one place long because she's a terrible doctor." So. Your instincts are correct.

I also have vestibular issues and a google search said she was a specialist in it…so someone else who is also a specialist would be great.

The most helpful thing I did was vestibular PT. I saw Georgia at Helathlink PT. I've never had such clear results from PT.

Apparently decent neurologists are hard to find. My 80+ mother started exhibiting all the classic signs of Parkinson's. The neurologist she got referred to was adamant it was not Parkinson's, and had prescribed a bunch of meds that were not helpful. After comparing notes with an aunt whole had been diagnosed with Parkinson's, my mother got a referral to a different neurologist who confirmed, "Yes, you have Parkinson's.". Within two visits and tweaking meds, she was much better. This was in the Buda-Kyle area.

Dr Neiman at Neurology Institute of San Antonio is great and couldn't recommend him enough. The office is off Paesanos Pkwy near NW Military/1604. Do not see the other Dr in the practice (Suzanne Gazda).

Omg took my mother to see Dr. Burt after her stroke. She was awful!!! No bedside manner, treated us like we were morons, I had to drag information out of her about my mom's condition-and we never went back.

Dr. Millar is who I go to. Nice guy. Was just starting out when I first saw him. There are now 3, I think, neurologists in that practice.

They sold their practice 3+ years ago. The staff is really bad. Poor communication, screw up appointments etc.
Two years ago I told Millar about his staff. That is when he told me that they had sold the practice and didn't have any say so nor control over who works there.

I still go to him because I have to see him only once a year. If I had a bad problem I would go elsewhere.

Oh, and since they sold out I have had some problems with their billing.

I went and checked out his google reviews, seems to be on par with most of the reviews, saying the staff is bad, not necessarily him.

The reason I have stayed with him is because he is a nice guy. Since I see him once a year his bad staff is not that big a deal.

That is an alarming trend that keeps getting worse and worse as the clinics get gobbled up by corporations. Same with vet clinics. No or extremely poor customer service and communication and you can never talk to a real person that gives a *****

Just ran into this situation with my neurosurgeon Dr. Hilton. They sold their practice. It has totally changed the dynamics that office. It's a shame.
