We had a great meal there in May... Just a bit loud so hard to have a conversation, especially when your parents are hard of hearing.

Yes.

I have a few friends I took a couple years ago and they still tell me it's the best steak they've ever had.

It really is. Happy hour has great specials too, and their appetizers are excellent.

Reminds me a little of Smith and Wollensky's in Houston.

I think Bohannons steak is better, but for J Prime,

Service is great.

Steak is really good.

Apps are amazing

Drinks are top notch

J prime and Bohannons are the two best in SA. For me personally I think Bohanas still offers the better experience. You need to make sure you arrive 30 to 45 minutes before your reservation and take a drink at the bar downstairs. The one other thing that I like about Bohannons, although it has nothing to do with steak, is that there Chilean sea bass is the best in the city.

Probably not "best," but Kirby's on 1604 might belong on the list. We (party of 6) went on Saturday night. Steaks, apps, drinks, atmosphere were all very good to excellent. It was a lot quieter and less boisterous than others on this list, which I like for family dinners. Also, reservations and availability is quite a bit better than either J Prime or Bohanons.

Smoked ribeye (nightly special that day) was great. Also notable, very good and unique fried pickle appetizer and the bacon & jalapeño Mac and cheese was spicy and creamy.

About $110/person for us, eating and drinking very well (call drinks, no wine).

We also enjoy Kirby's not because it's the BEST in town, but it's quiet, good food, good service and not at all pretentious. My wife and I have ended up there a number of times intending to go somewhere else, but it's just too easy and dependable.

Went to J Prime the other night. Great experience! Everything was incredible and the service was immaculate.

Mexican Nationals are beyond irritating, they will stop in the middle of a walkway and disrupt foot traffic to have a conservation, create big messes and just overall have a scumbag entitlement that rivals the housewives of dallas

I will say this. When I was a college student in SA and working for a furniture company, the Mexican Nationals that I had dealings with were incredibly nice and far and away the best tippers. I don't deal wtih them much anymore in the business I'm in, but I have had a S ton of dealings with entitled arrogant white Americans so there's that....

Perry's---sadly, the last two times we went there they have tremendously fallen in quality and service

Ruth's Chris---just terrible, the 1990's are over, so are they

We are going to try Bohannan's, JPime, Kirby's, until we find another "go to".

So glad others have great reviews here!

We visited J Prime last May for my parents 50th. Food and wine was great. But the room was very loud (sat next to a retirement party.)

Was the food worth the price? Yes, I would say so. But did the atmosphere lack because it was just a big loud room? I would also say yes.

We've been to bBohannon's a couple of times, and have never had a bad meal and the atmosphere was on par for what it should have been but gave us an opportunity to eat the meal at our pace.

I agree with this. We have our Christmas party at a high end steakhouse every year and we did J Prime one year. Food was very very good but it is all in one big loud room. Could only converse with the people immediately next to you.

We had Bob's this last year and that was my favorite environment yet. I thought it was so beautiful in there with all the wood work and their Christmas decorations were so classic. The food and service were incredible. Surprised it isn't held in higher regard by you guys. Maybe I'm a weirdo.

We also really enjoy Kirby's. We had it at Myron's one year, probably won't have it there again.

Need to try Bohannons

After last night I can confidently report to you that J Prime I is by FAR the best Steakhouse/Restaurant in San Antonio. The level of service, attention and food quality/taste are unmatched. Our reservation was a last minute 9pm booking so we were worried we would be rushed. Next thing you know it's 11:30 and we are on our after dinner drinks and they told us zero rush and to have another! Also had an awesome manager named Miguel who was very friendly, conversational and very involved in the service. My fear is that we now live only 1.5 miles from J Prime and I might have to ask for a raise at work to support us going there! But totally worth it! And yea, it's not some quiet, private place. It's a freaking machine with more employees than I've seen. It's a packed house. We sat upstairs, so it felt even more amazing.

I'll admit... Still like Little Rhine... But don't go out in SA (we live in Pflugerville) enough to visit it lately.

Not sure it's changed much, with the exception of the opening of Bl Prime Steakhouse. Haven't had a chance to eat there yet. My votes are for J Prime, Bohannons, and Perry's for the pork chop.

Have you tried Blue Prime? Thought it was pretty good - in the same development where Eddie V's Wildfish is located.

Anyone been to Blu yet (behind Cover 3)?

I've heard mixed reviews. GF & I are taking the parental units there for a (late) Christmas gift when schedules align.

I would go with J Prime over Blu. The atmosphere of J Prime is more conducive for conversation. The Blu Prime experience is like high end steak house mixed with south Texas gentlemen's club.
