I have been going to Lackland once a month for medical treatment. Due to COID mitigations and federal direction to house illegal aliens, the space available rooms are a no-go for vets these days. So, I've been booking rooms at most of those hotels (advertised by Seaworld) on HWY 151 between 410 and 1604.

3 of 6 times since NOV 20, my truck has been broken into by, what appears to be, "tweakers" looking for guns. The last incident occurred at 9:41pm while parked in a well-lit area, truck next to mine was occupied by two senior ladies talking on the phone, while parked in front of two security cameras. They were fast and did not care... Hotel manager said the hotel across the street was 'hit' later that night as well. SAPD took all info on phone and, frankly, sounded like they take this call every 30 minutes or so.... they seem overwhelmed.

I won't name the places, but I will share that I have installed Jimmi Jammers to at least slow down the problem.

In other news, I found out the Ford F-150 is the most stolen/burglarized vehicle model in Texas. I wish I had a "so what" recommendation aside from maybe pay the big bucks and stay downtown with valet garages (?).

Finally, if anyone knows a 230lb white guy with short dark hair and dark sneakers riding shotgun in a Harbor Grey Metallic 2014 Hyundai Sonata with dark tint, no front plates, and a chip of black paint on the passenger door, please tell them Uncle Bug said "What's up."

Had same thing happen a couple of years ago at La Cantera. Parked right in front of Nordstrom's at 6:00 pm. Busy shopping / parking area. F-250. Cops said they were in and out in seconds. Said I was the 23rd Ford break-in that day between La Cantera and The Rim.

Anecdotal, but I've stopped locking my F150 altogether and I haven't had to replace a door handle or window since. No clue if someone has gone through my **** or not, but after the 2nd tailgate and 2nd locking mechanism, I've decided to let these pieces of garbage have a free look.

Sucks to have to do that but I probably would too. I basically work out of my truck so it's damn near impossible to not leave a bunch of stuff in it all the time.

I just wonder if they even check to see if it's unlocked before breaking in. That video looks like he is in so fast with the screw driver that he might not even check first.

Interesting that he just looked in the console and nowhere else.

The same thing happened to me this past September at my girlfriend's apartment (I-10 and 1604 area). They broke in through my door handle. Looked through the console and glove box and that was it. Didn't take anything so I assume they were after guns or cash.

They hit my F-150 at The Quarry in 2018.

I put Jimmi Jammers in and also put a bunch of JB Weld around the lock cylinder to hold it in place better. There are only two small plastic tabs to hold it in, and a pair of channel locks on the exposed lock cylinder (2016 model handle) will make short work of it.

The other thing I did was install extra horns on a separate circuit. The tweakers will also put a coat hanger in the grill to grab the wires off the horn to disable the alarm sound.

Lots of topics on this on the Automotive board.

Don't have NRA or second amendment stickers on your vehicle. It makes them a target for tweakers looking for guns

yep, the trash drive through the big parking lots and don't even really care about security it seems. When my son was working at YardHouse, he heard that even with security up on the roof scouting, they still couldn't catch those guys because they hit fast and move. They need like 10-12 other security guys staked out.

Just hope they try the door before they bust out the lock.

Same thing on the first break in a few months ago... I had parked with the front of the truck under some trees (dark). Didn't find out until I had to use the horn two days later trying to drive home.

Sorry to hear this. Always been a major issue in SA. They target areas with easy access to highways for a quick getaway (like major shopping centers/hotels) but I've seen a big increase in notifications from Ring and Nextdoor the past few months for vehicle thefts and break-ins in surrounding neighborhoods.

SAPD is overwhelmed they don't even attempt to investigate. Definitely one of the big benefits for living in a surrounding municipality with its own police force (Shavano, Hill Country Village, Hollywood Park) IMO.
