HEB's True Texas BBQ at their store at Bulverde Rd and 1604. Very impressed with their brisket and sausage

The BBQ in the restaurant attached to wilderness oak location is great too.

And disagree with the other posters saying smoke shack being overrated. Hits every time.

Bare Bull BBQ near Canyon Lake has been our favorite the past few months. It's a bit of a drive from North Central SA, but it's good BBQ.

They are good. In fact the chicken place that was in that spot before them (red birds) was really really good too. Wish they were still open.

Quick funny story. We went to the lake one day and stopped there first. I didn't even realize I had in a smokey Mo's shirt I got at taste of the north side (Another good bbq spot IMO). They said they would give me a free shirt if I would take that one off an put theirs on. So I did.

Then on the way home, the wife and I stopped at the most convenient thing to our house for dinner. Which is Smokey Mo's. But now I had a Bare Bull shirt on.

Ok maybe just I thought it was funny
We tried Bare Bull last night. Brisket and Mac & cheese were A+! Pork ribs and jalapeno cheese sausage were good. Not a fan of canned green beans no matter how you doctor them. I'll be going back for that brisket, though!

If you can't make your own, which is likely better than any restaurant, drive to Seguin and get H-E-B True Texas BBQ.

There's now a True Texas BBQ located in the Wildeness Oak HEB. We weren't too happy with it the few times we went but maybe they had a bad day or two.

My favorite is still Bare Bull near Canyon Lake.

We went a few Saturdays ago with the kids. Only about 10-15 in line, but it took forever. No shade and hot. I wasn't impressed with the food and the line isn't necessary. They could be a lot quicker.

Went to Windmill BBQ on Nacogdoches last week. Surprised at how good it was. As good as any BBQ I have found in SA.

BUT then, as a whole SA BBQ is not real good IMO.

Went to Reese Brothers on Sunday...really good stuff. No significant wait and plenty of seating.

On a side note, if you're ever in Marathon on your way to Big Bend give Brick Vault a try. Same brothers got that one up and running a few years ago. It's also a brewery.

Reese Brothers also worked for LeAnn Mueller at LA BBQ as well.

Did y'all see the story of the thieves that jumped the fence at La BBQ and stole more than 20 briskets? $3K loss for a small business is huge!

I used to know the Reese Bros out in Marathon when they helped with getting the Brick up and running. They're sips but good dudes, and SA boys. You won't be disappointed going there.

I tried Reese Bros. on Saturday. Had the brisket and pork ribs both of which were solid. The sides were a bit different than the normal fare with the corn salad (think mexican street corn but cold), poblano mac & cheese which was spicier than I was expecting, and the herb cole slaw, which we did not care for. Overall a good place that I'll eventually get back to.

My cousin was telling me about new BBQ spot called Double A BBQ on south side 1107 Roosevelt Ave. He said Brisket, Sausage and Beef Ribs were legit. Also pretty good sides as well.

I just got back from the homeland---Sweetwater, TX--and ate at one of the 2 BBQ places in town. Buck's BBQ is still better than anything I have found in SA.

But I have not tried Reese Brothers BBQ yet.

I went for lunch today. I thought it was pretty meh, especially for the cost. If your meat is meh, then your sauce better be good, and the sauce was meh too. Honestly, the most flavorful thing I had was the collard greens, and they were pretty salty. I would rank BBQ Station high above Windmill for flavor and price.

2M is the place to go in San Antonio.

You can also take a drive to Seguin and try out Burnt Bean.

Both places are legit.

Probably the best of the chain bbq joints.

Maybe an off day, but got some brisket at the Bulverde rd&1604 store last week. Tough and not a lot of flavor.

We tried Double A a couple weeks ago. Brisket wasn't even close to 2M in quality. We thought it was similar to Rudy's in quality. Also very limited drink selection. Sides were ok. I wound up getting a carnitas corn tortilla quesadilla from the Mexican restaurant across the patio, and that was much better.

Just moved to SA and I've tried both in the past month. They are both awesome spots.

That's awesome!

If you venture into Austin there is some legit places there as well.

Franklin's
Valentina's

I've tried both and they are worth the trip. I know there is a few others on my list in Austin that I need to hit up.

Excellent brisket. Best ribs in the world are at the Country Tavern, off Old Hey 31 on the way to Kilgore. My Dad, '49 met my mom there. She was on a date with a sip and my Dad bet his Aggie buddies he could get a dance with her. Game over baby.
