If you clicked on this to find out about where to go salsa dancing, please take your rapey self elsewhere.

We will be discussing our favorite salsas in the San Antonio area on this thread. When posting about your favorite salsas you shall say the name and location of where you can locate said salsa and sell us on why you believe this salsa is great.

This thread is not limited to red, green, roasted, fresh, or any variation of salsa. The only salsa not included in this thread is salsa dancing.

I will dedicate this post to the salsa over at Guajillo's at 410 & Blanco.

When you walk into Guajillo's you will notice that on every table there are sugar packets and salt shakers. No pepper shakers to be found.

This is because the salsa will make your grandmother cry. True story I watched my grandmother cough then cry today eating their salsa.

It's a red/orangish finely ground salsa that has a tangy tomato taste and a lot of kick, I believe of the serrano influence. They will sell you a styrofoam cup of their very flavorful salsa to take home.

You will discover Pace Picante is excellent, when you walk into an HEB and will discover it on the Salsa aisle, then purchasing it and taking it home. You will eat it and you will smile or cry.

my two favorite salsas right now are Sol Y Luna and La Fonda, with La Fonda's winning because of the freshness.

Guajillo's on 410/Blanco. But consider yourself warned, it's pretty hot. Oh and it's not serrano, they use "chile de arbol".

Go buy the heb brand roasted salsa. It is in the produce section. Kept cold. Warm it up a bit before serving. Holy carp that stuff is like crack.

Love Thousand Oaks Cafe salsa.

Also, what the hell is this "creamy ranch" salsa at Taco Cabana? IT's patently not tex mex, but I could drink that **** like horchata.

I like salsa, but I really clicked on this thread to see if I could find this C.Hobby they were talking about on WOAI radio.

My favorite is the dark stuff at La Fogata. I could eat that until I'm sick, and then do it again.

Thought not salsa in the traditional sense the correct answer is the orange sauce at La Marginal.

Best salsa is the hot salsa at chipotle.

The crap is wrong with y'all?

If I say Dollar General has good salsa, does that help you to decide whether or not you want to go try it out? Heck no. Tell us something about the salsa. Use your adjectives.

Okay, I will succumb to your leadership skills.

The dark salsa at La Fogata is dark, really dark. This indicates that it is highly likely that the vegetables were roasted first. It is not hot at all to me. I can take hot stuff but I don't like it much. It has a very slight sweetness which I think is just straight from the vegetables (onions, peppers).

So to follow along:
Dark Salsa at LaFogata:
Dark, very mild, flavorful, trace of sweetness

I cannot stand hot salsa with no flavor. The heat is fine if there is flavor also.

It's been too long since the raging midget has appeared on this board. Thanks for making us all uncomfortable, AD.

La Fogata roasted salsa is available at your neighborhood HEB in the salsa aisle

I sometimes crave the roasted at both El Mirasol and Rosario's. The rich, roasted flavors of both provide the right amount of heat without the unnecessary burn. Sometimes cannot finish my meal because I cannot stop using the chips as a convenient device for transporting those delicious sauces into my salsahole

tbh I've always liked Saritas salsa. Nice spice level and taste very fresh to me.

I also like La Fonda's salsa. It's almost like a pico and real fresh. Also a good spice level.

Nicha's is pretty good, but I prefer El Jarro Del Arturo's or Tomatillo's.

To expound for the raging midget's sake.

The red sauce this morning must have been made 5 minutes before it came to the table. excellent consistency throughout and the juices hadn't separated from the body. decent heat and great balance of flavors with a nice tough of cilantro.

The green sauce also had ideal consistency for the sauce, a touch less heat but also excellent flavors.

between the two the red sauce was preferable though a mix of the two is recommended for Christmas tacos.

I like the dark salsa at La Fogota also, so this is just a vote in support, I'll let the previous descriptions suffice.

I also like the red salsa at Martha's (I go to the one on Broadway and 410). Very spicy like I like it. If you stop eating, the burn increases, so you're forced to have another (I say forced, even though you know you wanted it anyway!). And so on...

For variety's sake, I'll also offer the dark salsa at La Fiesta Patio Cafe on Pat Booker in Universal City. It's much like that at La Fogota, but has a more charred flavor which can be off-putting at first (I can barely remember back to 1987 when I first tasted it) but eventually it's addictive.

Agreed on Martha's at Broadway/410. Excellent for a not-roasted salsa.
