Kitchen remodel ongoing right now.

Electricians were out yesterday and re-routed outlet, switches, etc.

Without getting into crazy amount of detail, the new island is 90-deg rotated from the old one, and will now be 100" wide and 60" deep.

We are putting these two pendant lights over the island.

The electrician did a 1/3 measurement and put them only 36" apart. Now that I look at it, this is way to close together and will be in line of site to the front room/TV. They are coming back to move them so they are 48" apart. In addition, looking online, instead of being centered over the depth (30" from front to back), they should be closer to the sink as well, which is the major food prep area. This will also give more space for the seating opposite the sink and remove any shadows in the 30" wide sink.

Here is the layout.

there is also a LED can light centered directly between the cooktop and sink

note that the island has a 16" overhang. The yellow dots (out of scale) are where I think the pendant lights should go instead of centered on the island counter

my in-laws have a similar setup. Tv/den is behind the overhang/bar area? They have pendants over the overhang eating area, recessed lighting takes care of the sink/prep area. Stand at the cooktop and face the tv and position the pendants based on that as you are thinking. Beyond that I'd assess your overall lighting plan and wouldn't overthink how centered the pendants are towards sink. Just my two pennies

I don't see a question anywhere in your post.

Any other suggestions?

With that size of fixture it would bother me if it wasn't centered but I am an OCD architect. Most people may not notice but to me it looks just off enough to look like a mistake for them not to be centered

I like them there, more of a task lighting for sink/prep/etc and general for diners
but
the yellow circles should be scaled to actual lamp beam size (where it hits the counter) to best separate them.
Gotta draw since me got no grammar MasterArch '76
