You can definitely find a better deal! Pinch a penny has their program with 2.5 gallon (I think) 12% chlorine. You buy the jugs the first time then just switch them out. Think it's around 37 bucks when I switch my two jugs

If you want the delivery aspect, Walmart has gallons for somewhere around 6 bucks and will deliver for free with a plus membership.

Usage varies with temps, cya etc. now that I am combining with pucks I use 1 to 2 gallons a week non the summer. Lots less in the winter. When I was only doing liquid, I was at about a half gallon of the Walmart stuff every day in the heat of the summer.

I've been working my way through the Walmart jugs for $6.97. My testing doesn't seem to show that they're the 10% strength that is claimed

It depends on your pool size, cloud cover(or not), aeration, wind, cya, etc. Get a good test kit( i have the tfp pro salt), and a good calculator(pool math). I tested free chlorine, TA, and pH daily until i started getting a feel for my pool. For the first months in July and August, until my salt cell came online, i was using 1 to 1 1/2 gallons per week. Agree that the Walmart jugs might not be 10% as claimed but, at least this summer, it has been the cheapest option available. I did the pinch a penny 2.5 gal jugs two summers ago and they were more potent but still a PITA due to limited open hours.

Before that, Home Depot was a decent option but they got significantly more expensive than Walmart over the last two years.

switching over to a salt water system is a game changer! i went from constantly adding liquid chlorine to occasionally adding acid and CYA. MUCH, MUCH less maintenance!

That was part of the reason I got the PaP jugs. Got a couple batches of Walmart jugs that were bad or something and created a problem for me. Did like the convenience though.

Gotta check the date code on the jugs as the chlorine loses strength rapidly. They follow the format YYDDD (two digit year and then day of the year 1-365). I root around and pick out newer ones if I can. Also in the summer try to avoid buying from HD / Lowes or anywhere else that stores them outside. The heat degrades them faster than anything.

I buy em delivered from Walmart as filler to get to the $35 free shipping and they sit outside in my garage. Added 200oz which should have taken me from 5ppm to 12ppm and 48 hours later I'm at 5.5ppm again. Think I go back to PaP or as you say go hand pick them.

So I learned something a couple of weeks ago. My CYA this summer got super high. Like around 160. I'm re-tiling my pool this winter so wasn't worried about draining the pool. I asked a pool guy why my cya was so high using pucks when a lot of people use them without that problem. He told me that I should use 1 puck per 10,000 gallons. I had been filling my chlorinator up ever Sunday which would have been enough for a
60,000 gallon pool. Mine is only
19,500. So instead of using 6 pucks a week, I only needed to use 2 pucks. Wish I would have known that earlier.
