Well, we have all been knowing this for a while with several carriers, but....

Let me add this before going too far off the deep end....

Having a relationship with your local agent is worth it's weight in gold. I have never ever had an issue with state farm denying claims when the customer knows who their agent is. I have several agents in San Antonio, Schertz, and College Station that I can call on my cell phone any time and drop off paperwork. We also don't make BS claims. I imagine knowing your agents for any carrier is helpful.

Documents concealed under a protective order for years are now public, and attorneys say they prove that State Farm was running a scheme that profited $1.4 billion through underpaying and denying wind and hail claims.

The internal documents reveal emails between company executives discussing the profits they've seen from the program. "They did a pilot in Dallas County, and it worked. They rolled it out in the whole state of Texas, and then they rolled it out in the country, which included Oklahoma. In the very first year, they lowered indemnity payments to insureds $1.4 billion," Reggie Whitten said. "Each dollar that's in that 1.4 billion was a human being's claim," he added. "Closed without payment ratio was 39%, directly in line with estimates," Hannah Whitten, an attorney with Whitten Burrage, read from one of the released email threads. "That is State Farm leadership in 2023, bragging about closing without payment on claims," she explained. Emails also say State Farm saved over $15,000 per denied or underpaid claim.
"Every homeowner like the Wests that we represent or like Billy Hursh, every time State Farm does not pay for a total roof replacement they've identified, they save roughly $15k per homeowner or an average of 78.8 million," Hannah Whitten said.

Been there, done that stone wall to the face @ $1000 per event
but all w/o a lawyer and
all were automobile accidents caused by others, no roof.

BTW their giant overwhelming annual convention for all that profit the company is
Sheraton Waikiki mid-Sept ... a time to avoid.

That said, the Aggieland policy agents I/others have known past are honest, top drawer ... so go figure.

Thanks for this revelation.

Well I guess I'm lucky I got my hail claim covered in 2022 (it was pretty big hail, would have been a joke to deny)

I did have to argue with them about the starter stip. When I brought up that they shorted the claim in the amount of the starter strip they denied it and said the strip was included in the amount. When I mathematically proved them wrong, they then required I send them a picture when we did demo proving my original roof had starter stip. It's wasn't much money in the big picture, but they for sure tried to short me.

Yeah, that is very common. I have to rebuild every single estimate and highlight the Xactimate pricing and highlight what is and is not included in each line item and why things like starter or hip/ridge is NOT included in the waste factor and is in fact it's own item. They are sometimes operate under the rules of thumb from 1987.

Wonder how much the settlement is going to raise premiums, and how many other insurers are sitting on similar time bombs.

My State Farm agent has been my best friend since 5th grade, roommate at A&M and best man in my wedding. Coincidentally, I've never had any issue with a claim….

My agent for 30 years (not with State Farm) was my aunt. Never had a problem. Her company dropped home insurance after the last Galveston hurricane, and I have since had to switch to State Farm with a guy I don't know. Not happy about it.

We shopped around auto and homeowners insurance back in April. Wanted a quote for both from St Farm. They wouldn't offer a HO quote because we quote "live in a wildfire/brushfire prominent area". ???????? We live in the 281 North / Guadalupe River area.....to H with State Farm
