Neil Sperry has been one of my go-to gardening resources for more than 20 years. Much of his advice is rooted in Texas A&M research, where his dad worked for decades.

One thing I especially enjoy is the Texas A&M stories he shares. I still remember him talking about planting the Live Oaks along George Bush Dr in College Station with his dad. He didn't see them again for more than 30 years until viewing President George H. W. Bush's funeral, and he said seeing those trees was a proud moment.

I read today's newsletter and thought this story was worth sharing. Here's the teaser:

A July Evening in College Station
I have great memories from my childhood. And, I have some tangible things that are incredibly close to my heart. This story encompasses both, and it brings in a third element - a date that passed last week without much fanfare. Let me tie them all in together.

I don't want to copy and paste - follow this link to read.

The story makes me want to go make/build something with my kids!

Awesome! He seems like a good dude. As a A&M horticulturist & landscaper I've adopted some of his philosophies over the years and passed along his knowledge.

I grew up with his daughter and he is as good as advertised. Always very kind and his wife is as well. She has been on the McKinney school board for probably 35+ years and nobody of count says anything bad about her.
