Any recommendations for bugs in your house? Worth it to hire a company to come out monthly? DIY? We have been in our brand new home for 5 months and I have sprayed once (I know that's not enough) but we are starting to see quite a bit of tiny critters coming inside. Roaches, ants, and spiders are our culprits right now. TIA

Edit: We are located in the Tomball area.

Put copper mesh in your weepholes and spray the outside of your home with bifenthrin from DoMyOwn.com as a start.

I have a company do quarterly spraying and check Sentricon termite stations. I think I pay $70/month all-in. I know I could almost certainly do it cheaper myself, but my time is better spent elsewhere.

Get you a sprayer. I use a Flowzone Cyclone 3 (replace the nozzle tips with TeeJet tips). Treat your yard with talstar-p (either spray or granules) Perimeter and indoor spray with something like Demand-sc or suspend-sc. Doing that will greatly help, but it can take a bit in newly built homes.

Bifen XTS + IGR sprayed 2' up side of house to 2' away from house will put up a lasting barrier. XTS is the oil-based version for outdoor weather.

When spraying inside the house, use Bifen IT (is the water-based version) + IGR.

The IGR (Insect Growth Regulator) breaks the reproductive cycle even for those bugs not killed by the Bifen.

I spray the outside of my house monthly as a barrier with Cyper WSP, or Demon WP (same ingredient). I also spray along all interior room baseboards that I can access with Onslaught Fastcap. This keeps all bugs and scorpions to a minimum. Is it worth it for a company to come do that for you? That's up to you to decide.

We have toddlers. Are these products safe for little kiddos?

Once watered in i know talstar is kid and pet safe. Once dried demand and suspend are. I have a friend who used to have a pest control business and she recommended those to me and I made sure to ask about using around kids and pets.

We are in the same boat. They say safe once dry. That said, I wouldn't let your kids lick the floor or eat the grass where you spray.

Would I be wasting my time to grab some ortho or spectracide and hit it heavy for the time being? Later on, I can plan and buy the concentrated products for a better cost long term?

We grew up in the 70's with people spraying Chlordane. My dad would spray with it and there would be zero ant's fleas, crickets and roaches in the yard for multiple years before it
degraded Today's stuff is water compared to that.

You can get it a whole lot cheaper on Amazon, I believe talak pro is the name.

You could do it for an hour a year and for $20.

I expect I could, but this way it doesn't slip my mind or fall by the wayside. Plus, having a termite bond in Charlotte isn't a bad idea if and when I sell this house.

both of those ready-mixed products do well inside the home for ants and roaches. Outside the home, the pretty much only kill on contact (very little residual control in my experience).
