It's been reading over 1000ppm higher than the pool store, then salt dropped to 400ppm knew I needed to clean and I find this...( only a year old)

You pool chemistry is off. Looks like you need acid in your water (and definitely need acid to clean out this cell). Also that blue color probably means you have high metal/copper content in your water. You been using copper algaecide?

That is copper carbonate, 30 minutes diluted muriatic acid bath for the cell, remove remaining fouling with brush. Stop using copper algaecide. Get your metal levels checked in your water.

Thanks, every time before for the last 7 years I had never seen much of anything in there to clean, but did it anyway. So I was shocked to see this blue mass.

In the past I had used "Yellow Stuff" to treat for algae but my pool store said it was discontinued and recommended BioGuard algae complete which has copper sulfate in it.

I would love to hear any suggestions on a copper free algaecide.

Sure. Chlorine in a balanced pH environment with good circulation & filtration.

Fair enough...

Honestly, I had never had the need until Beryl dropped our neighbors pecan tree in the spa and we had to wait for the power company contactors to cut it out. Add to that we had no power/circulation for 2 weeks.

Hopefully dissolving the big blue glob out of the cell will get me back on track to good chlorine levels and will stay on top of the pH.

Sorry - you can try Polyquat 60, that's the generic... check ingredients for it. I think you might see it as Clorox Algae X or HTH Super Algae Guard. There are other variations, just look for polyquat 60. You'd want to hit it after you've shocked (say, right after clearing an algae bloom) or in a pool with a high CYA. Might also be good to use if going on an extended vacation.

Just kicking my self for not reading the label of their "new recommendation"....

And you are correct, I just trusted whe that it was discontinued that it was gone, not their decision to go w/a different brand..
