Wife told me while I was at work that the smoke detector was beeping. I got home and it's none of those. It's kind of faint but you can definitely hear it.

Weird part is when you're downstairs it sounds like it's coming from upstairs. And vice versa. It's driving us nuts.

Any ideas?

I dealt with this for like 3 days before I realized my wife had plugged in one of the outlet carbon monoxide detectors and then my daughter rearranged her bedroom and put a dresser in front of it. The faint beep still haunts me

Have a water alarm on a water heater?
Have a water filtration system under a sink?

Those in my house always go off in the middle of the night and give faint beeps due to being behind doors.

Throw the main breaker to see if it quits beeping. More likely to be battery powered, but it's one variable to eliminate.

If it turns out to be hard-wired, turn half the panel on, then a quarter, then an eighth, etc. until you isolate it.

Leak detector like a Leak Frog? Some of them will beep every 8 hours or so when the batteries get low. Took me gd forever to pinpoint that thing - after changing all the smoke detector batteries.

my freakin wife man.

I bought some new CO detectors last year and put them in. I had no idea she "kept the old ones in case we need them some day"

She put them in a drawer in our living room and I guess the backup batteries finally went low today. We have high ceilings in our living room so I guess the sound was bouncing all over the place. and it was pretty faint so I couldnt pin point where it was.

I had no idea we still had those or it would have crossed my mind.

"Extra" CO monitor got us a while back as well. Got stuffed in a junk drawer. Low battery chirp drove me mad till I figured it out.

Do you have prankster friends? They may have gotten you with an Annoyatron. It gives off random beeps at random intervals. We got a friend back when we were all single recent grads and it drove him nuts for a week before he finally found it!

Any chance you have an old fios box in your garage? They had a battery backup for 911 service for phone over fiber…or something like that.

had a similar issue recently. turned out to be a kids watch that had an alarm set so it was making a faint noise every hour.

and yes, I saw it was solved. just adding to the possibility list because if bothered me for around a week.

Years ago, we put some battery powered toy up in the attic, maybe a tickle me Elmo, and as the battery died out, it started randomly making sounds
