I'm sick of carpet and ready to look at laying new flooring. Have just over 1,000 sq. ft. we would like to replace. Laminate appears like they have tried to close the "waterproof" gap, but still seems like people have some issues. Any recommendations on products we should look at? May consider doing install myself, but that is TBD so open to installer recommendations as well. We are south of Houston (Manvel / Alvin / Rosharon area).

We recently took all the carpet out of our residence and rental property and installed LVP. Been about 6 months so far and it looks and functions great.

Had click lock lvp installed in June in our house before moving in. I like it so far, grew up in a house with laminate from the 90s and that felt more wood like if that is what you want LVP might not be it.

I have LVP in most of my house, put in by the previous owner/flipper. The only issue I've had with it in ~three years has been in the office. A few of the plans have cracked around where my desk chair sits. That was probably a combination of not having a chair mat/rug for awhile, me sitting in my office a lot, and maybe installation issues. My guess is that it wouldn't have happened if I'd had a rug or a chair mat in the room from the get-go.

Good advice as my office is part of the area I plan to install the new flooring.

Not considering tile? I went thru this decision a few years ago of LVP versus tile. I put in the wood looking tile and love it. 100% waterproof. I dropped a can of paint on it not too long ago. Cleaned up with no issues.

Not opposed, but would definitely hire install for that one!

It would have. I have had floating LVP for 2 years and a mat under my chair since day 1. I still have cracks on the edges of some.

We had the carpet taken out and LVP installed in our house when we bought it. I loved it. Then six months later we flooded during Harvey. When we renovated, we had the wood-look tile installed. I like it, and it's definitely durable. But it's also a lot harder (obviously) on the feet than the LVP and gets colder. We probably would have gone with LVP again, but our contractor pointed out that if we ever flooded again, the tile wouldn't have to get removed while the LVP would. We didn't want to deal with that mess again, so went with the tile.

One of my daughters and my M-I-L both had water damaged flooring and went with the wood look tile to replace it. I have to say it looks great and it's very durable. The daughter's flooring was put in several years ago. She has two teenage boys that are the opposite of careful with furnishings, flooring, etc. They haven't damaged it in the slightest. I would highly recommend and when the time comes to replace our tile floors, that's what we will go with.
I am not the Six Million Dollar Man, but I might need that surgery. "We have the technology, we can rebuild him!"

We also went with tile that looks like wood. When you have 3 dogs over 80lbs who have full run of the house, you don't worry about scratching the floor with tile. Also looks great
