I have an LG front loader that's about 3 years old. Some nasty stuff looks to be growing inside the folds of the door gasket. I see replacements for sale on the web fairly cheap and wondering if that's the easy way to go.

Has anybody changed out one of these door gaskets? Is it as straightforward as it appears? Just a few screws?

I've done this on an LG front load. Take a look at YouTube for guidance. It's not very difficult, but a bit more involved than you'd think. (I think you have to remove the top and front panels to gain access).

After you replace, make sure you keep the door open after a wash cycle to let it fully dry. Haven't had any problems with growth in the gasket since I started doing this.

On mine there is a spring you have to remove. There are special pliers available for cheap on Amazon that make this part really easy. Complete pita without them.

This. Buy the spring tool. Do it.

The replacement gasket isn't cheap, so unless you're dead set on replacing it, you likely just need to take it off and give it a good cleaning. In my experience, it cleans up pretty easily.

The main culprit (at least for me) was the little drain hose that connects to the drain hole at the 6:00 position on the gasket got blocked up and that prevented water from draining from the gasket. After taking the gasket off and seeing how it all goes together, I made it a point to clean that little drain hose out every once in a while. That combined with leaving the door open after running a load pretty much solved all our issues.

My drain on that washer gasket was clogged. I blew air from my compressor into it and cleared it. That made a ton of difference.

Well I feel like a dumbass. I've been annoyed for years about water pooling on the gasket. Just looked and the drains are clogged af.
