How long do you want to ignore this user?
After the holidays, I am going to be in the market for a new residential fence. Does anyone have any recent quotes to share, for north dallas area?

I'll be replacing 4" cedar side-by-side, 6 ft (with another foot of mudboard underneath) for a total of 7-7.5ft end height. Aluminum poles are all in surprisingly good condition and level. Appx 175' total length, and going to get quotes for board on board cedar only, raw or pre-dipped

I've got required tools and am above average in the DIY woodworking category, so if prices are silly right now I'm not averse to building it myself (with help from teenage kid).

Any info is appreciated. Thx

Your teenage kid needs to learn to build a fence. He will be better for it.

She (13) is going to absolutely hate every minute of it. I told her all she is needed for is to hold rails in place and run back and forth to grab more pickets.
"What's a picket"….so, it's going to mainly be ME rebuilding the fence
I've got that "if I CAN do it myself, I WILL do it myself" dna. At least the yard is my abode, where my wife leaves me to myself :-).

Being the dad of four girls, I can say she needs and will appreciate the experience later. She's not just learning how to "build a fence". She will learn how to organize work, how to assemble pieces of a "complex" object and many, many other things. Plus it is a great way to deepen your relationship with her.

I always "made" my daughters help with these kind of projects that may be classified as "men's work". The older ones are in their late 20's now and I see how these experiences have helped them in their everyday life and even their careers. At 12 and 10 years old, I had the oldest two on my grandparents roof nailing shingles down with a nail gun. I started and finished each course, but they would carry the courses across. The oldest is now the lead at a roofing manufacturer for a new product line they are developing. She has a degree in architecture and has also worked for a major city in the area of code compliance/planning for permits. The second is now doing real estate appraising. She was a regional director for parts at a major equipment company in her last job. When she got that one - she called me and said "Thanks dad" for making me do those jobs - it just helped me get this job. You never know when what you do will be just what they need for their future. The more and varied experiences you can teach them will help them in the future even if it is not in the career they choose.

They are like you - "if I can do it I will instead of hiring it done". The oldest is preparing to remodel her kitchen after the holidays. I believe I prepared my daughters to be as independent as they wanted to be. It's things like "helping" dad build a fence that helped make them that way.

If you don't have to dig holes and set posts, the rest of the job is cake! It sounds like you're leaning towards it already, but a company would have to lose money to have me pay them to do it.

I just used Beyond Fencing in January and was happy with their work. 817-925-9216 for Jorge.

We used Affordable Fence Co in Plano and they did great work. For 145' of 6' cedar board on board and new metal posts, it was approx $6k. That also included demo and haul off of the previous fence. We also paid about $750 to stain.

For anyone choosing to DIY, you can rent a temporary fence if you have animals and be less stressed and rushed. I rented about 120' of chain link fence for like $400 for a month. That included delivery set up and then tear down.
