I know there are other threads (I manually looked on the first 4 pages) but I cannot find them.

Quote from pool maintenance company for 350 basically half the parts of my cleaning robot. They recommend the Polaris 280 if I were to buy new. Looks to be around $600.

Wanted to see if there are better options around the 5-700 range.

Thanks in advance!

You're going to get a lot of different opinions. There was a huge move away from the old school Polaris to the robots 5-6 years ago. Now there's a big move back to the old school Polaris because robots break and parts are really difficult to get.

I'm going on year 3-4 of my robot and will probably just buy another one when it craps out. I can't bring myself to go back to the days of the Polaris.

yes...in our experience, pool cleaners give you about 3-4 years of life before they have to be rehauled or repurchased. We started out with a polaris robot when we first built about 12 years ago, but have since changed to the VERY POPULAR nautilus CC plus. it has been very good to us!!!

If they will give you a 30 day warranty on the rebuild to make sure they did it right, then there's no reason to buy a new one at double the price. We've found that the Quattro, while more expensive, is a much better product than the 280 when it comes to pressure cleaners.

In regards to robots, you can't go wrong with a Maytronics or a Dolphin.

I bought the Dolphin S200 1.5 years ago and have been very happy with it. Does a really good job.

Marina Pool and Spa was the recommendation I got on here on where to buy the Robot. They have the best customer service and prices. They'll ship to you.

I also recommend giving them a look. When you narrow down what you want, give them a call and talk to them…they'll hook you up.

Just wanted to add, they can't advertise their lowest price online, you have to call them and they'll give you their lowest quote.

That's where I bought mine too. It's also a maytronics (pentair warrior se). It's a great product and so much better than the side pressure Polaris 280….but…maytronics is complete dog water when it comes to parts. I've been waiting 18 months for a wheel kit (allegedly on a waiting list at marina pools and spa). I just macguyvered my own fix for it. So it's either come up with your own fix, try to find the parts 3rd party, or do what they want you to do and buy another one.

Dolphin S200 (aka Pentair Warrior SE or Maytronics Active 20) is a no frills but very solid pool robot. There are models with more features but most will never be used. Reach out to Marina Pool and Spas for great prices and service. Note, you used to have to call to get the best pricing, as I think they can only advertise a minimum online price.

I am getting the massive annual leaf blast in my pool (DFW) the last couple of days!! Trees seems to be about 80% bare at this point, so almost there.

My nautilus CC plus broke (stopped moving) in less than 2 years. I followed all the troubleshooting and no luck. Guess will have to budget for a new one every 2 years.

I have a Betta pool skimming robot too. Getting a cordless robot this time so they can both run at the same time.

Must say I am not impressed with my Polaris 280. One came with our pool when we moved in. It was terrible but I have no idea how old it was at the time so whatever. Bought a brand new one, and within 1-2 years the performance just fell off a cliff. Keeps getting stuck on nothing, making tight circles and not getting coverage, etc. Have had it serviced a few times and new parts - but it never gets back to it's brand-new performance state.

I am about to dump it and try a robot.
