Need to put down some fescue seed for some bare spots in our yard to help with erosion control. Anyone have a good recommendation on which type/brand to use?

What are the pros of using ryegrass versus fescue? A good portion of the area that I will plant is in the shade so I want to make sure I get the correct product.

Is this a permanent solution or just for this winter/spring?

If temporary, go for the rye and realize it will die out by next June.

If this a permanent solution for shade, go with the fescue and just know you will need to add seed every fall. Fescue, mowed tall and watered through the summer, will have a pretty good survival rate - maybe 50%. Thus, you will need to add seed almost every year.
