Anyone have a ballpark number to convert a bath tub with shower and tile to a shower (no tub), new tile and shower glass.

To keep it simple, labor only in the tile work.

We just did this to our kid's tubs upstairs. Paid roughly $13k for both. Used our contractor guy, not a true shower company so saved there.

So there were multiple showers?

So $13k total / ~$6500 each ?

We are getting ready to do the same thing with our master bath. I want to remove the large bathtub we never use, and either replace it with a shower, or enlarge the existing shower.

Also will replace tile and vanities. Starting to look at companies that can do this. Any recommendations in the Austin area?

I recently did two showers in my home, one with a tub. I had tile that develop leaks because of pan. I also had a cleaning issues with tile with age. I went with a solid walls and floor that look like slabs of cut stone. The company that does a great job is called Rhyolite Baths and Designs in Rosenberg TX. There reviews are outstanding they at very detailed in the work and best of all they are very reasonability priced. My understanding they will do work all over the State. I will attach a link to them. I cannot recommend them enough for their work and price.

It all depends of what you want and what you have.

I wouldn't pay less than $5,000 and would think twice about spending more than $10,000.

We're at $23k for a master bath redo, scope includes:
  • rip out vanities, move water lines and drains in wall
  • rip out tub and shower and toilet
  • move tub drain and water lines
  • install freestanding tub
  • build new shower

I am DIYing:
  • moving electrical
  • installing vanity
  • installing toilet

Materials
  • Basic porcelain/ceramic tiles
  • Wyndham vanity/tub
  • Kohler toilet
  • Moen fixtures (except tub filler which is delta)

ALMOST done with it, can post pics for an idea.

Second anecdote from February, re-tiled a tub surround, new plumbing, new floor tile. $3,750.

I'm getting bids right now to convert two upstairs bath / tub into walk-in showers. Contractor guy quoted $8500 each and national brand quoted $23k.

Fairly positive that I will be sucking it up and doing myself. With a shower pan and wall panels, I can get out for less than $1,500 each.
