I'd be telling that place they are on the hook for replacement. That's so incredibly bad and you will never be able to focus on anything else in that room. My God.

Yeah, 180 degrees would have been fine

That ***** looks small. If they rotated it 180, would the backsplash cover that notch?

Yeah, I just dunno. I hope they were high, though I don't think they were.
That is terrible. It's sad at this point we hope they were on drugs...

No backsplash. I'm a moron.

Well, maybe till now. Which means drywalling two walls of 130 year old beadboard. And redoing the window trim. Again.

Happy otherwise. Argh. Still waiting on the 54" uppers

I really hope you're getting that place on the horn and giving them the business. I know it wasn't cheap and they 100% ruined the aesthetic. Not ok for professionals imo.

Man, that looks really nice overall. I like the mix of old and new. Great job!

Found this today on new construction. Guess the full length ground rod is actually optional....

Finally, a thread on this board where I can actually show my work off!!!!

After waiting weeks for my counters, they install one piece the ****tiest way possible.

It was notched to fit the door trim, and I doubt there's enough of the slab left to replace, so not an easy fix.

Amateur hour.
.

Wow, instead of trying to line up the veins, which seems impossible after seeing the other pic due to the sink, they should have just put the white against white on both pieces.

I like how they penetrated the liquid-tight for the ground wires, too. That took some work, but the looks of it.

Other than the Snake ID thread, this has the potential to turn into my favorite thread on here. We need to get this one stickied to the top.

Awesome. What did they do, flip it? How did they deal with the notch?

These look great. Slight derail but what material did you go with for the counter tops here? We are in the market...

There was a small part of the original the slab left, this is it.

The stone company didn't have any remnants, but they gave me a list of the last 3 companies to order the same slab in case I needed a small piece to replace this one. Which I thought was very cool of them.

It's Vicostone Quartz. -Vivalioro

It's more of an off-white color. I'm very happy with it.

That was actually the generator guys. But, yeah, little bit of overkill for a ground wire.

I wouldn't consider it great work, but it's good enough for me and the kids.

And to keep with the shoddy theme… ya I didn't realize I had a glue drop on the seat brace until I was wiping stain and prepping for finish, and I went "welp, ya get what ya pay for."

1) what kinda wire is that, SS?

2) why put the slight bend in the wire in the middle?
Sea Speed
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
It almost looks like a welding rod, but doubt it is. Not sure what it is exactly, but doubt it is stainless because why would it be if you look at the context of the video.

The bend in it is to increase the tension and draw it tight.

Bending like that, it is most likely aluminum.

Wouldn't it just melt (cuz that's what I thought at first too).
chickencoupe16

Aluminum is commonly used to conduct electricity. Assuming the wire is sized appropriately, the aluminum should only melt if needed to break the circuit as a fuse.

Or am I missing something?
javajaws

Did somebody say electricity?

BenTheGoodAg

Yes, aluminum and yes it would conduct and then melt if overloaded if sized correctly. Other than the obvious problems, the melting probably will start where the wire is wrapped at the ends and ruin the housing if it was overloaded.

But the biggest problem is that it's going to be terrible at clearing a fault. Overloads and faults are different. Faults kill people and need to be cleared quickly. Fuses have ways of managing fault current quickly.
