Getting power to my home/HVAC/other

We have been without power (Spring/Klein area) since Beryl. A large pine tree chopped our electrical wires going from the garage into the house.

As of now we are waiting on an engineer report, which they say may take up to 8 weeks, to determine if the detached garage is salvageable. Obviously, our thoughts are on our home contents and floors, etc with the heat and humidity here.

Our adjuster, who is in Florida, said that there in Florida they will put a pole in the backyard to run the HVAC to the home and he wants us to look into it. I have heard of a pole being put in to run smaller things but the HVAC route would be incredible for us.

I am assuming but really curious if only electricians can do this or is there someone else I should condsider calling? So far we are 0-4 on getting an electrician to even come out to the house. No show twice and one said he wouldn't even come out until all the construction was complete.

Frustrated and trying whatever we can to get something moving in a positive direction. Any help or advice is much appreciated.

Is your electrical panel in the garage? Centerpoint should install a temporary bypass until your main line can be reattached. If that can't be done until the building assessment is done I'm not sure....

He's probably swamped with work right now, but if you can get Danny Hixon of Thor Enterprises LLC to engage, they do great work. They got my wife (then girlfriend) back up and running on a Sunday morning when a neighbor's tree took our her electrical drop and panel on a clear sky day in 2017. I have recommended them many times since.

If OP's house is like mine, yes... I'm assuming a detached garage with all electrical service going through the garage.

So even a temporary pole won't be able to tie into the house wiring. I guess they could do a temp pole and SOOW cable directly to the AC unit.

OP you can buy a temporary pole with a small breaker box at McCoys (well that's where my parents bought one when they built their home in the early 2000s). Install it in your back yard then contact CP for a temporary connection. I don't know all of the details about how it all works beyond that.

Correct on the detached garage. Back of garage is the panel and wires run through breezeway into house. The tree landed on the breezeway.

Right after I posted one of the electricians texted me to meet so we may be moving forward. He plans to takes the existing AC wires back through the breezeway, test them and try to run them off that. Hopefully that will work. $7500 is his quote for that.

Thanks for the help. It is really appreciated.

$7500 for a temporary patch job using existing wire? That is highway robbery.

Yes it sounded shockingly high to me as well especially considering this guys' reputation within our community. I guess I can get a second quote if I can get another electrician to show up. Otherwise, I guess it's up to the insurance to decide if they'll pay it.

Just got a hold of Danny Hixon as previously mentioned in this thread and we are going to meet in a couple of hours (hopefully) so I'll let you know the price difference.

Danny at Thor Electrical came out today and his estimate is $3800 so TexAgs for the win.

We have had nothing but the worst case scenario from contractors so we are cautiously optimistic. Danny seems to think he can get us back living in our house soon which would be huge. He seems like a straight shooter. Fingers crossed on this one.

Thanks again!
