How would you deal with dead closet space?

I'm trying to decide the best way to deal with dead closet space.

Layout for reference:

The doors aren't drawn to scale, but there's about 30 inches of dead space on each side of the doors. I was thinking I could just install some shelving or drawer systems on the sides that face inward, but I'm open to suggestions for creative/better solutions. ETA: Solutions that do not involve altering the existing wall construction.

Put a garage apartment in it!

Thought of drawers or shelves as well. Half height drawers with a clothes bar on top. Depending on what the room is for, could also put shelves which open into the room instead of the closet.

Or two sets of double doors.

Depends if you need shelf space or hanging space.

I've edited my OP to clarify I am not seeking a solution that involves altering the existing wall construction.

It's for a second home, so we don't need to cater to any specific needs - just make it more useful overall.
