Current fan motor is seems to be dying. It's been quite as a mouse since we moved in 10-years ago, but the fan was original to the house and it's now 36 years old and the motor is dying. I ran it without the blades and the same noise is there when it was on with the blades installed.

Went online at the usual big box stores (Lowes, Home Depot) and while there are some with good reviews, I can't seem to find any information about the motors and how quite the fans are.

The HunterFan web site has a list of fans they sell with their "whisper quite" motors, but none of the models listed at HD or Lowes show up on the Hunter website. I'm assuming there are branding/naming things between the different big box stores (like how mattresses are all the same but have 10 different names depending on where you're shopping).

Wife said no to Hampton Bay brand name (she thinks they are cheap) and was OK with Hunter. Current fan is a Casablanca (which is Hunter now) but none of the big box stores have them in stock.

Wife does not want one the the dome cover and wants something with more light. She prefers the ones with the exposed bulb in glass enclosures, sort of like this.

Would prefer to get something quickly and not have to order online and ship as it's hot and I wanted to get it installed this weekend. But if that's he only option to get a good, quite fan then that's what I'll do. Needs to be at least 52" fan.

Thanks

Have you tried tightening up the glass lamp shades? I thought I had a fan motor going out because it was so loud but then my FIL fixed it when he came over just by tightening the screws that hold on the glass lamp shades. I would have never of thought that but it fixed it and now that fan is as quiet as a new one.

It's definitely the motor. It's not a clicking sound related to rotation. It's a constant hum and it starts right when you flip the switch.

We are loyal to Hunter fans, so when we built our house that was mostly all we put in. They have always been good for us. We did gamble on a couple of Minka Aire for the living room and master bedroom. Both have been great.

I try to stay away from fans with light kits also. More to rattle (I think) and just kind of looks tacky.

Wrapping up a new build and we put Hunter Hildebrand in all of our bedrooms. Very quiet and they look really good as well. They also move a lot of air.

Old houses typically don't have ceiling lights in the bedrooms, so the light kit is sadly our answer.

I have had a 3 blade Minka Aire ceiling fan in my shop for a few years, I leave it running for months at a time and it has no issues. We have since installed two more at the house, no complaints.

I had a Hunter ceiling fan/light installed in my bedroom 3 yrs ago and haven't turned the fan off since the day I installed it (no joke). It remains silent. Have since installed other Hunter fans and am similarly happy.

Have gotten them all from Lamps Plus

Has anyone used a fan with the single light in a normal sized bedroom? Is it a sufficient light source?

Something like this

I had one with a single light and the room was too dark.

Thanks for the input. That's what I was thinking as well.

6.5x2=13w LED = 60w incandescent = OK ... for a closet
or tiny bedroom with table lamps on.

Maybe 22-28w LED might be the shopping genesis with BR size unknown.
Ten words or less ... a goal unattainable

4 x 60w equivalent LED bulbs is very bright!

In an old house this is a good as it gets without putting in can lighting in the bedrooms. We added the cans to the den. living room, and kitchen.

Just about any new fan will be quiet. If not, it's likely an imbalanced install.

We have had one of these in our bedroom and living room in two different houses and they are whisper quiet and move a ton of air.
