Other than waiting for a 30-40% off Sherwin Williams sale, is there a best way to buy good paint? In the past I remember contractors telling me to go to the store and buy it on their account, and I swear it was 50% off retail. Wish I'd kept their account info.

I prefer Benjamin Moore to SW. But there are some Behr paints that are quality and price competitive.

My SW contractor discount is 40%. I don't paint professionally. Just used my good looks when painting my own new construction house and asked the gal there to sign me up for a contractor account. It was either my rugged good looks or the 90+ gallons of paint I was buying.

I talked to the guy behind the counter at the one in the hood and he just said if I was willing to pay now instead of getting a bill later, he'd use someone else's contractor account and give me the contractor discount. I didn't even have to flirt. But then again, my looks may not be rugged or good.

You can just sign up for one. Your % discount is dependent on your volume though.

This. I use my account when I'm buying small quantities but will use one of my paint contractors accounts and pay at the desk when buying any sort of volume. They typically get 20% better pricing than my dinky contractor account.

Benjamin Moore Scuffx is the best paint I have ever used and I painted most of my interior of my house with it recently

Another vote for Ben Moore here. SW is good second depending on your budget.

If you go to Sherwin Williams tell them you are an AQHA (American Quarter Horse Association) Member. You get 35% off of all paint and supplies all the time. They've never asked me for a membership number even though I have one.

Go with Benjamin Moore. It's worth the extra cost. Sherwin Williams is okay but not as good. Avoid Behr and Valspar.

Farm Bureau members also get "up to a 30% discount off retail prices" at SW.

I bought paint through my subcontractor a few years ago for my house repaint, retail was like $80 and I paid $25. SW duration.
Amazing how much that stuff is marked up.

Saved me a ton considering it was ~40 gallons.

I've been at my general contractor job (commercial) for almost 10 years and not one single time has anything but SW been spec'd for paint.

Say what you will, but that is just my experience.

To be fair it's always promar 200, the contractor line...

I'm a fan of SW super paint for walls, it's held up well for me.

SW Captivate paint is absolute trash.

You get what you pay for. Best deal is at home depot. Best paint is at Sherwin.
