Hey y'all,

Bought a house from a flipper and of course have all the fun flipper issues. One of them resurfaced today while I was up in the attic. I noticed that the water heater exhaust pipe was misaligned with the water heater (see image). I was able to realign it over the heater, but that is only a temporary fix. This was one of the items the seller was supposed to address but it seems their fix only lasted a couple of months. I'm trying to get them back out here but no luck yet. Y'all have any recs on stabilizing the connection or do I need to get a plumber out here?

Sounds simple enough. Anything else to consider? I'm concerned the actual pipe isnt long enough/doesn't extend down to the vent hood

I would say it's unusual to terminate a swivel coupling directly to the draft hood. Typically, there's another fitting like this: Link

Maybe it's missing and they got a little eager trying to extend the swivel coupling as far down as they could to make it mate up. I bet you could adjust it upward and insert a connector fitting, through it may not be the exact same as the one linked above. It also may need to be trimmed to fit.

Probably the hardest thing would be if you need to trim the new fitting. There's plenty of videos on how to do it, but you need metal shears and it can take some practice. There's an off chance they may be able to do it at Home Depot.

Pre-tap the screws with a small bit and that'll go much easier.

Awesome thanks for all the wisdom. It looks like my vent exhaust pipe is double walled so I think that means it's Type B and I'll need the below:

Without having it in hand, I'm not sure how it adjusts or fits, but it could be. The other link I shared is also for connecting to Type B. It just transitions to the single wall at the termination point.
