Any recs for removal services in either county?

My mother has about 10 trees plus a barn with significant PI vines around the base and growing up. One area b/w a tree and a storage shed also needs a lot of brush removal, but it has PI growing through it.

I learned the hard way a few years ago that I'd become very allergic to the stuff where I'd never had a single issue growing up

Cut the base of the fine with a single chop from a machete and poison the stump. The rest will work itself out.

This is the way I approached it on our mature Pecan tree. Cut at the base and apply straight glyphosate with a brush to the freshly cut stem generously. It took a couple of seasons for it to fully disappear, so make sure you continue to wear PPE for a while when attending to it.

You just have to be careful if you're using a dull machete and you wail on it and it starts raining poison ivy chaff and leaves on you.

I've used Remedy as well but you gotta be super careful to not get a drop on anything else. I think your way is better even if it does take longer.

Poison Ivy is a broad leaf. You have to be very careful to not poison your trees. PI is not an ivy in the scientific sense. It's a tree as it contains lignin.

My former neighbors were renters that grew PI like it was MJ. Except you can't smoke it. They had to leave and we spent years ripping roots out. Also spraying their ivy on their side and also killing their trees. Sucks...but beware neighbors bought, moved in and ripped out everything above grade.

This. The reaction comes from the oil on and in the vine. So you're waiting like your removing oil/grease.

That's what I've done with mine (I think you also posted in my thread from this weekend on the OB).

My concern with this is that I believe the oil that causes remains active long after the plant it dead. Aren't you basically just waiting for it to naturally decompose at this point?

Yes, it rots ok its own. I know it's not ideal but I just prefer a more hand off approach because for me, I prefer misery of looking at a dying plant for 5 years rather than the misery of getting it on me once.

It turns brown and the leaves fall off and then you don't notice it so much. May not be an option for you but that's what I always did.

I mix roundup with Vaseline and dab that mixture on the exposed stump and say drink away baby

It's possible to not get infected if you come in contact with it. Treat the affected area like you would car grease. Put dawn on a wash cloth and scrub the area vigorously. Or use orange clean. You have to do this within 2 hours of exposure and it won't get into your skin.

Soap has never worked for me. I use rubbing alcohol. If i am around any land clearing activity i am fully clothed and then rubbing alcohol on entire body afterwards.


In 2014 i was developing some land with vines or whatever sort everywhere. All the land was cleared and i thought i was safe. Came home and showered body with dawn as i'd done before.

Ultimately, I had sand flying at me everywhere. It ended with me having a rash on every single inch of non exposed body and even some under my sleeves. I am talking face, neck ... lasted nearly 2 month after steroid injection and all. I have some minor scarring from it.
