Hey all. I have a Hayward 4030 cartridge filter on my pool and I'm wanting to buy a new set of cartridges so I can swap them more frequently. I can't seem to find much information on how the $400 Hayward set compares to a sub $200 set from Amazon. It appears impossible to find any comparison between the two versions or even any specs related to micron rating on the Hayward brand. Has anyone gone the cheaper route? If so, which brand did you ultimately go with and any feedback on that brand? I will pay $400 if it's necessary but I'd much prefer to spend half that. I also don't want to waste a couple hundred bucks on an inferior product. Thanks in advance.

What brand?

May not exact comparison but I use Pleatco for my DE Cartridge and the price was good and so far lasted a few years w/o any issue....

I'm mainly looking at the "Poolpure" brand on Amazon. They seem to be about half the cost of the Haywards or the Pleatco brand.

i've bought 2 sets of the poolpure brand off amazon for my pentair cartridge filter, and have not had any issues.

i've started just buying a new set of filters each spring, and clean them a few times throughout the swim season. start over with fresh filters each spring.

This is about where I'm at. I get so much organic material in my pool (leaves, branches, pollen pods, etc) from all the trees on my property, that I pretty much have to replace the 4 cartridge filters annually. I clean them a few times a year, and even have the floss tool that helps clean between the pleats, but I'm lucky if I can get more than a year out of them.

To the OP, I've tried several brands and they've all been about the same.

I've been buying the amazon ones annually for quite some time... no problem at all. I replace just after the swim season/October range so that i'm fresh through the winter months and into the next swim season.

I have used that brand multiple times. It seems perfectly fine. For the 150 bucks I just replace yearly. Usually clean them after swim season to make it through all the crap falling into the pool in the fall then replace before swimming starts again.

Thank you all for taking the time to respond. Sounds like the poolpure brand is certainly worth a shot and I don't disagree that at that price, it won't hurt replacing them after a season if that's what it comes to. Thanks again for making this a more comfortable decision.

I use optimum brand off of Amazon for my Pentair and they work great.

I've been happy with https://www.discountfilters.com/ for all my filter needs.
