Howdy!

Does anyone have any ideas to minimize the flag getting twisted up around this kind of pole? The problem (besides this being a cheap Amazon product) is the plastic collars on each end that the flag clips to is supposed to spin freely but they wind up sticking and I'm constantly using a long pole to unwind it and free it up. It's about 12 feet off the ground so not easy to constantly mess with.

I'd try a dry lubricant. Cheap and easy to apply to the collars and it won't attract dirt. - Example

I've tried all sorts of things to solve this problem (been quite obsessive about it). Doing the following 3 things works almost flawlessly:

1) Don't use cheap collars because they spin independently. The following rotates the entire flagpole so their collars (included) all spin together in unison. This allows gravity to help unfold itself:

2) Since the lower part of the flag tends to get rolled-up, this device (USA made in Wimberly, TX) holds the bottom part straight (similar to how the moon landing's flag has that support arm):

3) Only use nylon flags (Annin brand is best) which is light enough to correct itself in a breeze. Polyester is quite heavy, especially when soaked after a rain.

Thanks. Haven't tried a dry lubricant but did try oil lubricants with no success. I knew it would not last even if it worked for a while. Out of frustration I even tried Teflon tape on the pole under the collars but that didn't do anything.

Thanks. I'm happy to pay more for a better set up based on first hand experience.

My flag is horizontal. Does the sentinel still help? Mine always seems to get hung up on the outer end of the pole.

You can also use that flag arm at the top. My flagpole is at a 30-deg angle, so the bottom makes more sense. At either position, it seems to keep a part of the flag like a "sail" to catch the breeze & rotate back to normal.
