Any recommendations on pool vacuums?

Currently using a Polaris 280. Looks like the same kind of vacuum I recall my family using 35 years ago.

It's not quite two years old, but I think I need to replace it. Keeps getting stuck (like dead ends in spots it never used to), making tight turns, or constantly getting in knots. Pool guy did some adjustments, replaced wheels, etc which seems to make it work for a bit but it just goes back to a bad state before long. I had a similar model before this one that did the same thing - not sure how old it was as it came with the house. When I bought this one new, it worked great for like a year. I will say it has to do a lot of work - due to a tree canopy there are times of the year it needs to be emptied 3-4x a day.

Anyway, sort of annoyed with the longevity, but seems like a lot of other options are 2-3x the price. Are they worth it? Or should I just cycle this out and expect to do so every few years?

Not sure the electric types will work for me, without doing some additional work as I don't really have any outlets that are well placed for it. But would consider it.

For me, I have the Aiper Seagull Pro robotic pool cleaner and I love it. It replaced an old dolphin suction side cleaner.

Positives:

1) I really enjoy not having ANY cords. I turn it on, toss it and and let it run. It can run while kids are playing in pool and they don't have to duck under cords. I use the hook to pull it out, wash out the basket and charge it (only takes a couple hours to charge).

2) ultimately gets a TON of dirt that I know our previous suction side would leave behind. When I empty it out its like a mud basket which is both gross and awesome.

Negatives:

1) the cleaning patter is a bit more random than I expected but if I leave it in the full cycle it always gets everything from the bottom.

2) cleans walls but wish it would clean steps.....

3) when pulling out, it is pretty heavy until you drain the water out and usually during that drain process it never fails that some stuff gets back in the pool (but not a ton).

4) wish it could be controlled via app like some of the more 'main stream' robots can

We have several pine trees (neighbor's yard) over our pool. Been really happy with the Polaris Alpha IQ+. You control it through the iAquaLink app.

It has an electric umbilical cord but it filters a ton of water and the pool is always clean with it set to run every day. It also cleans the walls and waterline tile.

planoaggie makes a good point. There are times I don't love the cord.

That said, weeks like this week where I know we aren't going to be in the pool much because the weather sucks, it sure is nice not to have to take it in and out to charge it.

Can't have it all, it seems.

good point....rainy weeks I don't even bother getting it out until there will be a 2 or 3 day break...not a big deal b/c we are not in the pool anyway...the main "issue" is walking by a window and maybe seeing leaves / debris at bottom of pool....

Makes sense. I'm definitely in the "I don't want crap sitting in the bottom of my pool" camp, so I'd still be out there running it.

Probably a good thing to think about when weighing the corded vs. wireless options.

Thanks all. I think a cordless option won't work, simply because I typically need to run the thing a several hours a day or more. Having to recharge twice a day doesn't sound fun.

The models that clean walls and waterline tile sound interesting. Getting new plaster and glass tile installed as I type this, and would like to keep it looking good.

My 280 is 24 years old and still going strong. If the hose is getting tangled then you probably don't have enough swivels in it. If you are even remotely handy, these things can be repaired quite easily and the parts are cheap on Amazon.
