In Central Texas. Had a major hole in my 20 year old outdoor coil cause by my kid...

Got two quotes both also replacing gas furnace.

14.3 Seer Comfortmaker Single Stage using existing ductwork and zoning for two story house for $11800

16 Seer Train Two Stage using existing duct work but new control panel for zones for $12000

Easy decision. 2nd company said newer single stage Acs don't do well with zoning and recommended if we wanted single stage to go to one zone and I didn't want to that.

Seems decent. I got a similar Trane system without the zoning in 2020 for like $9500 IIRC.

Might get a 2nd outfit to quote same Trane, then read reviews b/c installers can be regrets that defeat SEER

Regarless of first-costs, thinking variable stage would be better comfort in zones and save any extra costs back month-month

Trane 4T variable heat pump, attic close quarters
Same metal supply ducts & Elect.filter, new RA duct
New thermostat
$16k
One day install - big crew, top rating Aggieland
Be sure to replace all "plumbing" w/new

I assume a 410A system, new A2L units should be out in a few months. Will be more expensive for 410A will be phased out so recharging and repairs could be expensive in a few years. At some point (end of 2024/early 2025) 410 systems will be on clearance as the DOE will not allow 410A systems to be sold so most installers will be switching to new equipment to not be stuck with dead inventory.
