Been paying attention to this for a bit and looks like we're close to it now…this video explains it very well why most likely table saws are going to nearly double in price soon due to government regulations….

Not a huge fan of regulation but the way some people use these tools is downright insane.

Wow.

There is a lot of learning that comes from failure. You cannot regulate this, but we live in a world where the government tries exactly that.

I'll be keeping my radial arm saw and my table saws that my grandfather made a living on as a carpenter…and cut hit thumb off on. That's how I learned to use them safety…hearing about how a skilled tradesman still lost his thumb. I don't need a saw stop to help me make dumb decisions because I'm complacent in my work.

As for the saw stop guy, I respect the hell out of him from a business standpoint but I'd never freely give my patent up for this. Call me greedy, I don't care. I am hopeful that his decision to give his patent technology away is actually a beautiful business decision that will result in him still carrying the lions share of the market, now having it forced to be used by manufacturers, but yet avoiding being sued under monopoly or antitrust laws.

If it some thing our gubmint hates, its people being at liberty to have good things at a safety cost, but what theybhate even more is business owners working hard for something they got to first and making a lot of money on it because they were bright and innovative enough to protect their proprietary technology. Gubmint doesn't like one person having all the money for that, they like that wealth spread around.

Big fan of his. Also watch John Maleki, Blacktail Studios, Johnny Builds, and 731 Woodworks…

Really hope this thing doesn't pass….fortunately I've already got a bench top table saw and I will say stuff like this bugs the hell out of me…..I've NEVER ran my table saw without a riving knife and the only time I take the blade guard off is for cuts where it gets in the way….

This is going to punish a lot of people who've never used a saw improperly because they won't be able to afford it….

Every time a regulation is proposed, companies come out and pretend like the sky is falling. They say that they'll go out of business. They say things will cost drastically more for no benefit...

It literally never happens. They're always lying.

Seatbelts in cars were treated the same way. Catalytic converters were supposed to create a situation where cars were chronically underpowered. Emissions regulations were the same way. Food safety standards... Any sort of consumer protections... right to repair... It happens over and over and over and over again but some people still believe it when for profit businesses tell them that the thing that would inconvenience businesses and benefit the consumer is actually an infringement on your freedom to... I guess lose your fingers, in this scenario...

Its mind blowing.

It has to cost more. It can't be the same price. I don't need the gubmint telling me what I NEED. I don't need anything. I've been using table saws, circular saws, chainsaws, and planers since I was 13. I have ALL of my fingers. I did cut the inside of my leg with my chainsaw when I was younger because I didn't not feel like wearing my chaps. My overalls didn't do much and I bled like a stuck pig. I didn't die, but I could have. I LEARNED by being a dumbass. I wear chaps now.

This horse crap over reach is why we have so many dumb ass people in the world. No one gets smarter because we make things too safe. If we didn't have this, the concentration of street smarts would be much higher. If you try to change the belt on your car while it's running and it snags your hand and rips your arm off and you bleed to death in your driveway, I welcome that. We need that to happen. It's good. You need to not be stupid and pain is how God intended you to learn that.

If I wanted a saw stop, I'd buy one. I don't need big daddy government telling me that I MUST have an expensive (read 50% price increase) safety feature that greatly inflates the price of a saw and costs $100 to replace when triggered. This has NOTHING to do with anyone going out of business. It has EVERYTHING to do with no one wanting to pay for this. If I don't want to cut my fingers off, I'll just keep using my riving knife, push stick, and push block to keep my fingers away from the damn blade.

Which one of those was a 30-40% cost add to the price of said item like the sawstop tech?

Yeah. Seat belt is like $100 in a $35,000 vehicle. This is more like adding an ejection seat

Know of a lot of lost fingers NOT from idiots, just weekend, seldom using types that even were religious in use "use gloves", the very gloves that got caught in blade & pulled fingers into!

As usual, "DADDY" we elect w/o any proper research "protects" all of us from the crooks & idiots that misuse, then ban use of many tools (e.g. guns) important for Life itself, if not time/labor saving. Maybe if the majority ARE idiots, we must live like ones? Should we genesis a new country that filters WHO can enter via IQ .. or make a mistake and elect an Open Borders guy to make it all futile? IDK I noly have a masters degree .....
