… well for about 30 minutes anyway after each flush, and we haven't even had Mexican food in several days, more is the pity.

6 year old home west of FW. Could they all have the same cheap floats and valves? Maybe hard water? I didn't think we had hard water out here. I grew up on the high plains and I know what hard water feels/tastes like and this ain't it.

Guess #1
Replace flapper with one that is resistant to some chemicals, while scrubbing/polishing the outlet perimeter tube

Guess #2
The old bend the floater's metal arm so floater rides lower in water

Can't wait to see the other guesses .....
Good Luck!

Like a trickle or full on running and self-flushing? Or it takes that long to fill up the tank?

Is this a recent thing, or an issue slowly getting worse over time?

Sometimes water softener resin beds go bad and the beads end up gumming your plumbing fixtures, so this can cause simultaneous issues with multiple toilet valves.

Not sure if you have a water softener, or maybe there's some other temporary influx of sand or other particulate in your water supply, but that could explain a sudden consistent issue with toilets.

You can replace all the moving parts of a toilet for pretty cheap, maybe just replace everything.

Also, look out for the fill tube being too long going into the overflow pipe. It can cause siphoning if anything over an inch or so into the pipe

Start using new toilet pucks recently? Clorox/bleach ones? They eat rubber stoppers up pretty quickly i learned the hard way. Stop using them if so and replace your flappers with new ones as a start.

Any chance you have this style FluidMaster design float and valve?

I have 6 of these between our house and small business, and 5 developed similar symtoms in the ~5-7 year range as you described -- running for a long time, slow to fill, or sometimes randomly running day or night. I think I replaced 2 initially and one of the replacements failed similar very quickly.

I spent a long time troubleshooting, flushing, searching web/youtube. Finally I just replaced them all with Korky and wish I'd done so a long time ago. Vastly superior in every way, from flushing to filling and most definitely the install. Going on 2 years+ now.

I just replaced a Korky because it wouldn't completely shut off. Replaced it with another Korky and it did exactly the same thing right out of the box.

Replaced again with a Fluidmaster like your first picture and it worked perfectly.

None of these are perfect or better than the others in my experience.
