Moved into a new house and finding all the fun things. One of the bathrooms has no vent fan. When my kids take hot showers, the humidity is ridiculous. Water all over the floor and sink and toilet. It's so bad I was sure they weren't closing the curtain. We tried a dehumidifier and it did nothing. Other solutions? Or a certain dehumidifier that would work better?

What is above the ceiling in said bathroom (attic, floor joists, etc).

Add a fan since it easy access to attic. Vent outside.

According to another thread on the board, are you sure your kids aren't walking out of the bathroom leaving the water running?

This. Super simple if attic is above.

I highly recommend a larger Panasonic whisper quiet. They make them up to CFM but it needs a 6" duct.

I installed mine myself but if you aren't handy find someone!

Vent into the attic or vent outside?

Outside. Venting into the attic would create a possible mold issue.

You can vent to a soffit or out a wall depending on what is near the bathroom.

If you're in the Austin area and plan to DIY, I've got a nice fan only model that I bought a while back that I ended up not needing.

I've notice in our kids' new houses, they never have a heater. In the winter it's freezing.

Get a cheap vent cover, screw it into the ceiling. Open the shower faucet and reset the scald protector so it won't get so hot. Tell wife you put in super quiet fan that is wired in with the light so it comes on automatically. Tell kids the city is requiring all families to reduce gas usage so the water can't be as hot. Buy yourself something nice with the saved money.

If he doesn't want it I might be interested. My kids bathroom needs a replacement.

Next best option is a small dehumidifier. We added one to our master that always seemed damp even with an exhaust fan and it's greatly improved things.

You can get smaller counter top units for $40-$60ish on Amazon.

Soffet vent if near one is easiest to vent too. No roof damage. If you have a vent nearby already running to the roof you might be able to just Y into it, not sure on the code standards for that though.

Do you have a model recommendation? We bought one and it doesn't seem to do anything.

We have this one, but I'm sure there are better or less expensive.

Moved into a new house or a "new to you" house? If the former, turn in a warranty request, it should have a vent.

A bathroom is the one place you don't want the quietest fan you can get. They don't call them "fart fans" for nothing. Your wife will appreciate having a fan that drowns out the sound of her ripping 'em off as she drops a monster deuce.

Agree with ALL above as best & proper.

Other rogue options include
1. if a window (not mentioned?) then dual exhaust fans on TIMER ala

2. floor fan blowing from open door into bathroom on timer ala

3. Amazon/others sell magnet WEIGHTS for shower curtains that help SEAL water out of the bathroom floor
4. Quick dry & no slip shower mats "sponges" ... and more than one might be in order
Ten words or less ... a goal unattainable
