We are getting ready to renovate our Kitchen down to studs and I'm looking for advice on appliance brands. Nothing current is staying. West Houston home (Kirkwood/I-10).

Oven/Range will be 36" gas slide in unit. I know I don't want anything Samsung or LG. Thoughts on Kitchen Aide, Viking, Thermador, Bosch?

Any others I should look at?

Bluestar
Fisher Paykel
Miele

I didn't feel the need to get all one brand, but some people want that.

DW - Miele excellent but high cost. Bosch a close second and a fair amount cheaper.

Range -I am a Wolf fan. Long lead time still. Therm is good, same price roughly as Wolf, Viking...not a fan, repair history is not great. Bluestar excellent.

Ref - SubZ is pricey, long lead time, but will last 20+ years. Most of your average refs (Samsung, LG) are made to last around 5-7 years. Others like Miele and Liebherr have caught up to SubZ to some degree and while close in price, may have better lead times?

Blower/hoods - Best...but there is not a huge difference between these. Just make sure your pipe size for venting, and the blower's CFM are appropriate for the range's heat output.

Faucets - Rohl is great and has a lifetime guarantee.

Just recommending getting as many things on site before gutting the place. Set up a temporary kitchen if possible. If stock cabinets, get them, unbox, and inspect first. (A friend a distance away had his kitchen redone and a few changes to windows, non load bearing walls...not a complicated job.... 9 months later they are still not done. Mostly cabinet problems, finish/color not consistent, cracked doors, hardware not working properly then long lead times when replacements needed to arrive.)

Let us know any other questions.

Attached is what Consumer Reports has determined as most reliable.
The irony IS that CR no longer seems to care about
1) how WELL it does its Job, 2) quality of its parts/guts, esp. life as they focus on Quiet & general repairs.

That said, I must agree with their top brands attached EXCEPT
never again will e have a dishwasher Bosch as we see our 2014 model's guts rusting out, tines falling and NEVER enjoyed the cleaning design of any of these racks BUT we have been spoiled for decades by KitchenAid with racks designed to clean, organize and the machine's longetivity ..
we strayed from KA when they sold us a Toy Garbage Disposer problem inside a DW but later they wised up & went back to the SOP filter that can be cleaned/replaced.

Historic FYI
Samsung refrigerator side-side that others hate LOVES us since 2013
Jenn-Air electric range LOVES us since 1980 ... knock on wood!
KA trash compactors are bullet-proof and a joy, once you learn how to care & feed them
Ten words or less ... a goal unattainable

We renovated our kitchen about five years ago and have nothing but KitchenAid. We've been very pleased.

1. If you are a foodie that remodel will be quite different.

2. NKBA has a fill in the blank Design Survey form worth your time. I give this to all my clients.

3. If I have to spec 1 wall oven - its a 30" Miele Steam Combi.

4. If I have to spec 1 cooktop - its a 36" Miele or KA induction**; with bluetooth (for pots/pans) and built-in WiFi. Pot fillers at the cooktop are helpful.

5. Don't skimp on the RFG, get a dual zone that can be integrated into your home network. Seen models that can help with online shopping. Vegetable "crisper drawer" is a smart investment.

6. Undercounter lighting is worth it.

7. If you bake; have a station for that. Butcher block is still a great surface.

8. Kitchen Island will be very important.

9. Deep sink; with a large faucet like Brizo ODIN with smart touch technology; air switch for garbage disposer

10. I like minimalist type counters/cabinets and use BLUME's servo drive for soft closing/opening.

That should get you started. Kitchen remodels are have some of the highest ROI for your home. Good luck!

** gas is overrated. Pros don't use it except for outdoors.

We just did a kitchen remodel and kept our preexisting GE or Whirlpool appliances. I did buy a new range...you may realize by now but they're insanely expensive. I cook a lot so I wanted something good that would also be attractive. To give your my experience with a brand no one has mentioned yet...I ended up getting a Bertazzoni 48" dual fuel with a griddle. I have been VERY happy with it. I got it from an outlet for $7k.

I would go talk with Reliable Parts on 610 / I10 - they sell appliance parts and helped me on occasion. Knowledgeable, nice and can probably tell you the most reliable va least reliable.

I know a lots changed in the last few years, but when we did ours lead-times were an issue.

Top choice was Thermador, but they were over a year out. So we went with a Fisher & Paykel. Zero complaints.

We've since moved and this house also has a 36" Fisher & Paykel. Again, no complaints.

If you're going from a basic builder grade 30" range to any of the luxury brands, you'll likely be happy.

Also, it was right down the street from where we lived but we got our F&P at K&N on Durham near I10. They were very helpful and had a great gallery set up to see options.

Remodeled this past summer and went with SKS (ovens, fridge and freezer cabinets) and Sharp (microwave), and kept Bosch (stove) and Whirlpool (dishwasher). Enjoyed so far with no issues.
