I have an older fan coil unit, I assume coil has been replaced in past. It's a 2005 unit!!!

No issues, works great, exterior components are '16 vintage. I'm being proactive and budgeting for full replacement.

Had unit cleaned and serviced last winter, no issues noted.

Changed filter today and took a look at the coil.
I can't tell if the pooling rust is new or old, but unit is showing some rust. I suspect the pooling rust is previous issue my discharge is running clear out of house.

I have no idea what to expect here. Is this expected, bad but keep an eye on it, or failure imminent?

We replace every 20 years, need it or not but that rust suggests to me that you might go 20-23 years before you have to call-in-the-night during a weather event tying up the HVAC phone lines for a system replacement.

2005-2024 = 19 years, soooo as for me, when weather becomes ideal in Spring (or next Spring) yank it out and buy the very best system on the market to replace.

I had some apartments outdoor units were 35 years old before I had to replace the outside

I still have 3 inside units that are 33 years old

And the units were still blowing 18-20 degree splits

How things used to be built is amazing

Oh I also just replaced a 92 water heater

Edit. Oops 43 years hold. Built in 1980
