I finally got a solid wood barn door installed in our bathroom, with some really nice hardware. I purchased the door from a separate place than the hardware and am running into an issue:

The slot at the bottom of the door is not tall enough to accommodate the guide that came with the hardware: https://rustica.com/wall-mount-adjustable-standard-guide/

I guess the thing to do is cut the groove at bottom of the door deeper OR grind/cut down the guide to a low enough height.

I am not sure how to do either and I would prefer to not have to do anything to the door itself - it's heavy and I am not sure I have the right tools. I do have a dremel though.

I need about 1/8" deeper groove on the door or cut off/grind off 1/8" of metal of this steell guide.

Of course I followed the instructions that came with the hardware, and my guess is their doors come with a deeper groove, so lesson learned. The door I got has only about a 1/2" groove at the bottom.

I do not want to mount the guide to the floor, and I do not want a cradle guide that you can see from the outside - I want the guide hidden...so yes there are other options but I cannot find a groove guide that is lower profile.

Doesn't look like grinding 1/8" off that guide would be too hard.

Definitely easier than modifying the door.

I assume you cannot adjust the door up on the hanging hardware?

It looks like it would be pretty easy to do with a circular saw. Seems like a good opportunity to buy another tool or find a friend with one

can that be done with a dremel? I am not dremel or metal savvy to know what to use. I picked out of all my bits what I thought was the right one to grind down the metal, and after 10 minutes, and sparks it doesn't look like I made much progress.

The measurements on everything were a one shot only - measured 82 times to drill holes once on both wall and door itself. It came out perfect 1/2" off the floor, but the guide is taller than 1/2"

I have a circ saw, and I guess the trick is just get the blade depth you want and make some passes through it? Was also told to start outside and move inward, don't run it inward out the edge or you will blow out the ends?

I just do not have a good table to use to make this part easy and don't want to screw it up.

Would a router bit on my dremel be a safer and more controlled option?

Dremel may be a bit under-powered.

A bench grinder or angle grinder should work.

You could try this on a drill.
DEWALT 1-in Aluminum Oxide Grinding Wheel in the Abrasive Wheels department at Lowes.com

Probably need to touch it up with a file after to smooth the edges. May want to touch up the paint after too.

I would think the dremel would be harder to control for that big of a job.

I would too, but thinking since I only need to shave 1/8" off an already present groove, it doesn't have to be perfect. I think the dremle comes with some guides I can see if that would help too

Good guide or a top bearing bit so it won't drift in the notch.

angle grinder and a cutoff disc are about $20 at harbor freight and will grind down the guide in a few seconds. Might be quicker to drive to the store, buy it, and then drive home than to do it with dremel discs.

Got a metal cutting disc for the dremel and about 10 mins worth of cutting and smoothing got it…will post pic in a bit for those to critique my fabrication skills
