Alright you garden peeps - I need help. I got this from my dad's funeral, and of course I want to keep it alive as long as possible. I have decided to keep it at my work as I will see it the most often.

It didn't have a card how to take care of it, but my brother said its a "fig plant" and that it likes some sunlight, but not direct, and don't move it once its in place.

This window may get some sunlight during the day, but rarely what I would call "direct".

Do I leave it off to the side, put it center in the wall, or more in front of the window?

Google says "generous but infrequent watering" - what the heck does that mean?

Here is the plant and current location.

I hope more knowledgable folks come along but here are my .02

I've bought and killed lots of figs but doing pretty well with my current one. The best figs I've seen live directly by a window so I'd put it right in front of that one. Water it completely then leave it alone for a week or two until the soil is dried out then soak it again.

That's a beautiful plant and I hope it thrives! Good luck.

We have two large fiddle leaf figs and they're both situated in about the same light as yours pictured. They're both in very large pots. We water them about once every 2 - 3 weeks. That usually consists of me rolling them out to the backyard and soaking the dirt until it starts draining through the pot. I let them sit the rest of the day outside then bring them back in.

During that interim period, we spray the leaves down water water to keep them free of dust and I trim the brown leaves so that the green leaves aren't crowded.

I don't know that much but for sure you need a bigger pot.

Thank you everyone!

I'll get a bigger pot soon. I may end up having to take it home instead of at work - bad thing is don't have a great spot with sunlight at home. But will make it work.
