Redoing both the bathrooms in our house. Considering schluter DIY for both, seems relatively idiot-proof especially with how the system goes together, the pre-slope pans, the niche you can buy, etc. anyone done a similar project?

TIA

Their niche is too small and I don't prefer the vertical orientation. If I redid my shower, the niche would be on the wall opposite of the shower head and horizontally laid out. Really you can just build a box and save some money.

I redid our shower and used Schluter years ago. I'd never done any like that before and found it fairly straightforward. Turned out great. Pretty cool system.

Post pics! I am handy, know my electrical, plumbing, carpentry, but tiling is new to me.

This is our basic inspiration below for our smaller bath:

Would use this niche but in the horizontal position:

It was at our last house. I should have pics somewhere but I'll have to look. I farmed out the tile part for some reason. I should have done it myself. For some reason I let the tiling part intimidate me, but I have done tiling since then and looking back I'm pretty sure I could've done a better job than my guy did.

That's what I'm thinking. Prep is key, planning doubly so, but it does not look difficult.

Will likely be doing it on my master bath coming up this spring. Only thing I can add now though is that I believe to be eligible for any warranty, you have to use all of their product at every step including their thinset.

Seems like a small additional price to pay (their thinset), their stuff ain't cheap.

I did our master bath 4 yrs ago, still holding good. I used the 5/8" thick Kerdi board for walls, and Ditra for floor. I tiled the shower floor with their 36" pan and drain. Making sure the thinset is the right consistency is big. I did small batches (1/4 bag at a time). Having help was great, even just as a gofor, and cleaning trowels. Pros make it look easy to keep everything clean. For the warranty must use all their stuff. I've used other thinsets with it on other projects, but like their's much better. I bought a used tile saw.

Mr Dubi used it when building a handicap bathroom for my dad. Feel free to message me if you have any questions for him.

We also have a big industrial size tile saw you can borrow if needed.

We just finished our basement bath.

We didn't use any schluter; the glass metal is enough silver for us. We didn't want that silver border around everything. Def. a to each his own, some people love it, we don't.

Used this 14x14 iche from floor and decor

I finished our bathroom partial remodel about a year ago. I used all schluter products. Kerdiboard walls and ditra heat floors. I had never tiled before and made mistakes/ learned a lot as I went. Overall I think it turned out well. I can see some of my mistakes but the wife can't…or maybe she's just being polite.

There are tons of youtube videos out there. If you are at all handy, I say go for it. I also have a tile saw for sale cheap.

Thanks yall! Dubi I might take you up on borrowing that tile saw, greatly appreciate it.

Getting a couple quotes from a few outfits, will make my decision from there and, of course, start a thread if I end up DIYing
