Previous home owner laid down some limestone that had, overtime, settled into the dirt on the side of the house.

I was going to remove them and use some 24" square 2" thick Pavestone.

Initially I was thinking: Lay down some crushed granite, coarse sand, and pavers, and then layer of rock to fill in.

Then I started wondering if I should do large 1/2 inch minus granite, followed by sand. Not really wanting to dig out many inches of earth on a 60-70 foot long path.

Suggestions? Central Austin.

4" of stone, then screed 1" of concrete sand on top the stone before laying the pavers. 6" of stone would be better.

You're just looking to keep your feet/shoes dry and clean when taking out the trash?

I would keep this one simple...

I would rent a walk behind vibratory compactor and run it over the current native soil. Then a thin layer of DG, run the compactor over that, set your pavers, then fill to flush with DG. Use the vibrating compactor as able along the sides and between or tamp as hard as you can between them with one of the heavy square tampers.

So no need for sand? Just DG would be sufficient?

Correct. Unless someone can say otherwise I don't see the need

Out in right field here with no help with that solution,
instead sharing an EZ for me solution similar from the past - back then it was also cheaper.

Ground treated 2x6 &/or 2x8
throw down the screeds @ 48"oc
screw down the 2x6/8s longways on top
space them so bottle caps can slip under
ala Dixie Chicken alley someday IF it rots out

... not funny? I really have such next to house
Ten words or less ... a goal unattainable

Hand tamping...terrible idea but it's done (the first phase).

Going to get some river rock tomorrow and fill in. Also thinking of slowly curving the path rather than doing that little squared offset.
