Even if the wax ring looks clean it might have been compressed and then the toilet reset once or twice more which won't compress the wax since itts already been compressed. Once you pull the toilet, replace the wax everytime. My builder did that when fixing a tile isssue…reset the toilet three times without replacing the wax and low and behold we had a leak shortly

My wax ring looked maybe a little lopsided and maybe that was causing a smell.

Any thoughts on the porcelain defect in my last post? Something that could be a big enough issue for another toilet replacement?
