Just got a new Whirlpool French door refrigerator. For some reason the interior shelves have these little tabs on them that prevent 2 shelves from sitting flush with each other. Does anyone know what, if anything, these tabs are for?

The product photos even show all of these shelves level with each other, but they won't sit right because of these tabs. Whirlpool Refrigerator

I've looked through the manual and searched online and can't find anything. I'm not opposed to just grinding them off, but would like to know if they serve some important purpose first. All 4 shelves are identical as far as i can tell.
