Short version - my pool pump (Century Centurion E-Plus 1081) isn't working after a breaker blew; is there a way to reset it without taking it apart? I didn't find anything on google

Long version - I was out of town for 7 days, and sometime between Sunday (7/16) and Friday (7/21) my pool equipment stopped working. When I got home today I saw the breaker was blown. After resetting it my pool pump will not come on. My control panel appears to be working - it turned auto valves from spa mode to pool mode. I can hear a clicking sound on the control panel when I put "pool" mode on but the pump doesn't make any noise. After a google search it sounds like it's a capacitor on the pump, too high voltage from the panel to the pump, or a dead pump. Does TexAgs know of any other fixes?



...and if not, I'm assuming I'll be getting a new pump as early as tomorrow. Anything good to consider? Anything I should stay away from?

I'd try the capacitor first. Very cheap compared to a new pump.

I've had to replace the front bearing in these and I've had them rust out from the bottom, no fix for that. A bearing replacement is relatively straightforward and inexpensive.

I don't think it's a bearing - I was able to turn the rod at the back of the pump. It easily went both directions - I think that ruled out a bearing issue. Please let me know if that's not the case.

That's my hope at this point. I think I'd love a variable speed bump, but I know I don't want to pay for one.

Definitely try the capacitor first. Should be able to get one for $20 or less on Amazon. I just replaced mine last week. The Texas heat (assuming that's where you are) will kill them every couple of years typically.

If the capacitor is bad and everything else is fine otherwise, then the motor would be making a buzzing sound. Sounds like that's not the case.

If you have to replace, I would highly recommend Jandy.

Thanks for the replies. I tried a new capacitor, and that didn't work. I have a pool guy coming today (after truck broke down yesterday).

I think it's either the pump, or the control panel that sends the electricity.

Might be the relay for the pump if it's an old single or two speed.
